Probably because this movie bombed hard in Japan. I personally enjoyed this film, but a lot of veteran captain harlock fans hated this reinterpretation of him as a superpowered V for Vendette with a universe destroying bomb. The main draw for Captain Harlock in the past was that he was a honorable mortal man who overcomes powerful alien threats with wits, a somewhat supernatural ship, and friends he makes along the way. To them this CG Captain Harlock was a big betrayal of the character premise, but I think they are taking things too seriously.

@@TheTongueofRa I did check them out, but what I meant was the amount of cgi and concept art put into this movie (or movies like Alita). We need less remakes and more original stories well directed and with this amount of skills.

@@arsgrimori3592 True, but sadly most movie makers don't want to take risks at writing their own spin on stories and they don't seem to get "why people love" the origonal source material. Like Hollywood's remake of Ghost in the Shell is the prime example of obsessively copying source material into an incoherent out of context story instead of daring to make a fresh story.

My god. No. This movie was terrible. Movies that look similar? Sure. Movies with giant spooky space battleships? Sure. But the plot of this movie was the most epic mess I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing.

I watched this movie when i was younger and now rewatched it. Like... i got those "fangirlish" moments and hyped (oh my god this was this awesome/i understand why i liked this) time to time when watching. Partly because of the soundtrack. :DD

When.. you older yourself is more "childish" when watch this than the younger you was..:D But all on the positive ways! And when your father, who is 60 years old..watch the scene with shiny eyes and childish smile on his face.. when Albator ascend from the spacefog,and he say: Son.. this is awesome. This is one of the moment of my life.

idk how many people hear have liked this movie but if you did go watch the original or anything made by leiji matsumoto, such as galaxy express 999, galaxy railways, space battleship yamato, gun frontier, interstella 5555, sexaroid/ is a manga not and anime, queen emeraldas, and queen millenia. all of matsumotos works are great in there own right.
