Tettegouche State Park is right outside of Silver Bay. 3 1/2 hours north of Minneapolis. Tettegouche State Park is one of the most frequently visited parks in MN. There are plenty of Hiking trails and in the winter SnowShoeing, Skiing, and Snomobiling trails. This is a favorite spot for climbers both in the summer and winter.
The visitor center is nestled by the Baptism river. The visitor center is impressive to say the least. It has excellent restrooms, a large open resting area with a warm fireplace, a gift shop, and rentals for gear. Our Ranger was extremely friendly and helpful in explaining the park. She was knowledgable about the hikes and the area, that is not always the case when I talk with Rangers.
We took a day hike to the High Falls. The trail was mostly empty except for a few photographers looking for bears and some ice climbers looking for ice. We didn't find any ice or any bears to say the least. The Falls were covered in these large snow drifts. The suspension bridge was fun to hike across as well. We all agreed that the hike into the falls was one of our favorite parts of the trip.
After the hike we loaded up the pulks and headed into Campsite E at Tettegouche. If you do not know what Campsite E is, it is the most popular site at the Park. Booked from the minute it gets warm all the way until it gets cold. All throughout the week. That site barely gets a day off. In fact, there were people already booked starting at the site the weekend after we were there. E and F are popular, try for E when you go.
It is an amazing site that overlooks lake superior by the Baptism river. Once of the best Cart-In sites I have seen. Good Luck getting it during the summer though. The wind was really bad in the evening, but seeing the ice sheets pushed across the lake and hearing the crunching of the ice made it worth it. In the morning we awoke to a stillness in the air. The whole reason I enjoy winter camping is those quiet mornings with a light snowfall. Waking up at that site and having the slight snowfall was perfect. Despite the terrible wind the night before the morning made up for it. This was one of my favorite winter trips. I'd go back, if I can get a reservation for the site. Thanks for watching.

Still loving the drone footage. Did you stay warm while sleeping? It’s been quite a winter in MN! I can’t wait for the summer camping/hiking season. I don’t have the gear to attempt winter camping yet, but you make it look like fun.

I love the drone footage too, such a unique perspective. We stayed warm, two of us used pieces of reflectix to act as a wind wall on the really windy sides. That helped immensely. I also tarped down lower to the ground to block more of the wind. It was one of the best nights of sleep I have had in a while in the hammock. Summer hiking seems so far away, next up is the muddy flooded season.

Beautiful shots with the drone. Always enjoy your videos and musical accompaniment! I have the gear for winter camping (even made a pulk) but haven't worked up the nerve to go out and do it.

Thank you, One thing I need to do with my pulk is put those poles on it to stop it from sliding into me on hills. I hope you did that with yours. Car Camping is a great way to test gear without all the risk. Worst case you just jump in the car and go home. The whole reason I winter camp is for mornings like in this video, the stillness is amazing. It is worth trying, and your already there with the pulk and gear.
