UK Gladiators - Series 2 1993 - Episode 7 - Heat 7 - 30th October 1993
Susan Surman (Housewife from Swansea, Wales) versus Syrlene Clarke (Administration assistant from Reading, Berkshire)
Steve Quick (PE instructor and prison officer from Deal, Dover, Kent but originally from Cornwall) versus Roland Hill (Strength athlete from Corby, Northampton)
Notes: This heat is the only show not to have American football helmet wearing and combat events, meaning no Duel, no Joust, and no Suspension Bridge, only one American football helmet wearing event, Atlaspheres which is in the seventh heat.
Gauntlet now has a base of appearances in Heat 7 in an event line-up in the next series onwards which is played in the seventh Heat.

Those female Tilts were actually pretty good, Falcon and Nightshade were a lot more entertaining than Panther and Zodiac on Tilt.

12:46 Shadow unfortunately has had a real fall from grace. He was talented, athletic and a big star on a popular primetime TV Show. Now he is serving a prison sentence. From Sky News (2021) - Skip to content By Rebecca Speare-Cole, news reporter Friday 27 August 2021 23:38, UK Michael Jefferson King, known to millions as Shadow from the ITV game show, was one of four people who kept a man detained in a flat in Acton, west London, during a torturous attack lasting around eight hours. Image: Michael Jefferson King, known to millions as Shadow from ITV programme Gladiators Why you can trust Sky News A bodybuilder famous for his starring role in 90s TV show Gladiators has been jailed for his part in a blackmail plot over a drugs debt. Michael Jefferson King, known as Shadow from the ITV game show, was one of four people who kept Aaron Ali detained for hours in a flat in Acton, west London. Mr Ali was subjected to an eight-hour long ordeal, which included being beaten and filmed for "highly distressing" videos sent to his family to elicit a ransom of up to £1,000. King, 60, was alleged to have ordered a co-defendant to "fetch a hammer to break his legs" after Mr Ali tried to flee. The former Gladiators star, a long-time user of crack cocaine and heroin, was handed a sentence of six years and three months after admitting two counts of blackmail at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday.

I remember watching this as a kid and being upset that Roland lost. Not sure why. Watching it as an adult it utterly hilarious. He was talking shit the entire show, scored record points and didn't even finish the course. Poor Steve. The way Shadow and Warrior double teamed him in Gauntlet was rough.

Roland could've been a New Gladiator WARRIOR from his size, he was all the tools to become a gladiator in my opinion, such a shame he couldn't pull it off in The Eliminator which to the Contenders is the only event that really counts at the end of the day, but he gave some amazing performances especially in ATLASPHERES

That was crazy. In the 2nd international gladiators shows, Peggy Odita from the USA had an 18.5 second head start and her opponent nearly won. It was the travelator that was the deciding factor. Roland was a good example of a contender who had everything for the games, but absolutely nothing for the eliminator. Once he got to the cargo net it was unfortunately clear that he was all strength and no stamina. He probably would have needed at least a 20 second head start if he was going to beat Steve.

Gladiators and contenders had to be built differently; neither Wolf nor Warrior could have won an Eliminator. Warrior couldn't play some of the games at all. For example Atlasphere he was always afraid to go underneath because he couldn't support his own weight and would fall off (but the contenders could all do it).
