Tex Ritter must have been a rare and radical soul ! Thanks for this video, I am inspired ✨🙏to learn more about him. Given the time this was recorded, I'm amazed it was released!

'One of the worst songs ever recorded' You're kidding, right? I think it's badass.

It's not really a high point of the record imo. It's a fun song to play though. I posted a cover I did of Blood on the Saddle over a year ago as a result of this comment. Thanks for listening/watching!

@@mattfielding6365when I was a kid I loved it because it was something I found on granolas shelf after he died. Gramma was baby sitting me and let me go down in the basement to listen to gramps old albums because I loved music. Found this one and wrote it out even more! lol

Rye whiskey is my favorite on this album, but im confused,, the version on my copy is different. The record was my grandpa's and I used to listen to it with him like 50 years ago. Thanks for posting this

I was surprised to hear A Long Time Ago here. I found an old book a long time ago which compiled even older folk songs from the UK. If I'm not wrong, I remember A Long Time Ago being in it. The imagery of the different flowers sprouting from the graves and rising to meet at the top of the church linked them in my mind. I'll have to track down the book, wherever it is, and see if I'm recalling correctly. It would be astounding to find that the song has been passed on and changed hands across the pond to survive and still be recited for like 400 years after the book records it. On an unrelated note, to archive music you explicitly don't like is pretty based, if you'll excuse the Gen-Z term. In this case meaning altruistic or at the very least it's practicing archiving in a pure sense.

All the rest of the album is quite good. These are real country music. Thanks Matt Fielding!
