Texas Big Bend Loop

What happens when you're driving east through the Big Bend and want to see it, but all the campgrounds and hotels are booked? You do a big loop from Interstate 10 at Van Horn down to Fort Davis, Marfa, Alpine, and Marathon, and back up to the interstate at Fort Stockton. We were able to snag a last minute room in Fort Davis, which allowed us to spend a morning at the National Historic Site and adjacent Davis Mountains State Park. Amazing scenery, funky towns, good food, interesting people - even when you can't fit Big Bend National Park into your plans, this big loop off the interstate is well worth the drive.
