I feel like part of the reason most of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films suck past the first one is because the creators never seem to understand who Leatherface actually freaking is. He's not a sociopathic brute like so many other slasher characters, he's a scared little boy in a giant man's body that only wants to make others happy, it's why he kills for his family, and the times he doesn't kill for his family are out of fear due to his skittish nature. All of these filmmakers seem to just look at the guy and say 'Yep, stock slasher, got it'.
@TheSCPStudio2 жыл бұрын
I feel like part of the reason people like you can't understand the films past the first one is because they can't understand that things change and aren't going to be the same. You expect every film to follow the same narrative as the original because that's what you liked. It's fine, it's primitive human nature to prefer sameness. However it's intelligent human nature to understand how that initial narrative can effect future narratives. A lot of the movies after the first are narratives that show how being a "loving boy who killed for his family" effected him. You see him in various situations with/without that family. Most of the time, though, he's minding his own business when someone steps on his feet. And that's the real nature of his character. He killed for his family, yes, but only because HE loved his family. He just wants to live his life but if anyone or anything impedes him, he only knows one way to handle it. Also, you seem to literally forget that this entire movie was based on him losing that last family member that tethered him to some sense of normalcy.

Why the hell are you making sounds when he's still there? Are you dumb? You're in the middle of nowhere in a car crash, no one will come to you within 5 minutes where you'll be dead".

Right when Melony? Melody? The curlied hair older sister, said "someone with a little dick would carry a gun" or w/e when the trucker came in to fill gas ... Why? What was the point of insulting him? He didn't DO shit to you at all. After that my mom and I rooted for Leatherface. Then the entire movie just sucked. The gore was spot-on but... The way we entered the kills was rather depressing. Especially when the "Legendary" 1st character arrives and she has a chance to kill him but wants him to talk??? I like the remake back in like 2000 something but it's been a spiral of shiiiiiiiiiit since then.
@TheSCPStudio2 жыл бұрын
I used to chastise horror movie characters for being dumb when I was young. But I grew up and experienced the world and can see how absolutely moronic most people are. People can't even make good decisions for themselves on a day to day basis, and you think they're gonna make good decisions in a horror situation? People have egos and a false sense of control. They let that dictate their actions. Just look at a compilation of car accidents and see how many blatantly wrong people get angry as if they didn't do anything. If anything, seeing stupid people in horror movies is very accurate regarding people these days. It's to the point where I actually think the "smarter" ones are worse characters sometimes because their decisions are usually based off of nothing.

@@GeekedOutNeckbeard that's very representative of how people today act tbh. Completely rude and horrible to others for absolutely no reason. It's a little exaggerated for the cinematic experience but don't think that it's that far off from reality.

When I saw this movie I have to admit I had high hopes bc the beginning is actually quite scary, Leatherface is not presented immediately as a threat, yeah he's imposing and all but even Richter and the cops aren't like "yeah this dude is dangerous, go away", it's a build up and the sunflower field scene is extremely anxiety-inducing to me, I think it's paced amanzingly. The real problem to me is the way they handled the rest of the movie when the action ramps up, making Leatherface a kind of superhuman that just goes on a rampage for the sake of it and just to give some gnarly kills and a big massacre scene, getting back Sally for no real reason even tho the setting was good imho, she's still traumatized and seeks revenge but Leatherface doesn't even remember her and never cared about her, in reverse of something like Halloween where the killer is actively seeking out a specific victim, but then they just make the two clash like a superhero movie with her being crazy one second and wise like a mentor just after that. Plus, they really, REALLY should stop making the main cast a bunch of assholes and unlikeable ppl that you kinda hope will get killed, I want to be scared of a villain, not actually rooting for him to be the only one coming out alive.

From everything I’ve read, the original directors (Ryan and Andy Tohill) were fired only a week or two into production and replaced with David Blue Garcia. Whatever the Tohill brothers shot was scrapped and redone by Garcia (reportedly the studio was unhappy with the footage they’d been sent), but they weren’t anywhere close to having the entire script filmed and Garcia didn’t make any significant changes to the script.

@@D0NU75 Not really sure what you mean, the studio knew what kind of movie they wanted to make and realized pretty quick the directors they originally hired weren’t cutting the mustard. Compare that with TCM 2, which Tobe Hooper basically got tricked into directing and started filming with a half-finished script (case in point, most of Bill Moseley and Jim Siedow’s dialogue was improvised on set). Or TCM 3, which saw the original director quit during preproduction, and his replacement get fired a week into filming then almost immediately rehired because the movie was already behind schedule, over-budget, and they couldn’t find a replacement.

I had this theory while watching it that Leatherface would actually be 3 or 4 different people from the town trying to set up the massacre so nobody takes their home, that's why sometimes he would get hurt (when he breaks his ankle fighting the cap guy) but later acted fine, or showed anomalous behavior (like when he runs away afraid from 1st movie survivor and then comes back running from a dark alley completely fearless), also the only "native" people that he kills were helping the "invaders" to settle up so they would be seen as traitors, plus the first building the protagonists get in is an orphanage so I also thought that maybe the fake leatherfaces would end up being orphans raised by OG leatherface which is now past 80 so he would be in the same health state as "Grandpa" in the original movie What do yall people think? I am in a love hate relationship with this movie. I love seeing influencers being annoying and simultaneously being killed for said annoyance but I have so many issues with it. Melody isn’t likable AT ALL, so the slow burn, and twist end wasn’t satisfying at all for me. Her surviving most of the movie made me pissed when she died, it didn’t have the pay off that Dante’s death did. It also aggravated the life out of me that they’re STILL trying to pretend Leatherface is a supernatural entity that’s immortal. He had what, five, gunshot wounds? Along with a chainsaw wound and a partial drowning when he came back for Mel at the end, I almost rage threw my phone at that point. The scene in the bus where he takes out all the buyers was the only thing I really really loved, other than of course the satisfaction of a bunch of influencers going into a run down town acting like they own the place and getting their shit rocked as a whole. That rant probably makes no sense but I needed somewhere to spill it.

Honestly, I agree with all that. The only way I really enjoyed watching it was with that video of Trixie Mattel and Katya reacting to it. I think there is an actual explanation for why the nearly 70 year old Leather Face can still be so strong. Since his mind isn't really developed, it is possible that he also doesn't have the same limiters most humans can only break with sheer adrenaline during times of extreme duress (like pinned by a tree or such). There for, he is still working with 100% of what his body is truly capable of. Though I also imagine his body is tearing itself apart doing so which is why our brains limit it in the first place but he hasn't done this in nearly 50 years so he's still intact. Or its just horror movie logic and its all 'just because killer'
@endor8witch Жыл бұрын
limiters dont have speedy healing side effects. what they do is make them feel less pain and endure more, but whatever damage they sustain will be the same. in fact it's more dangerous as you keep going getting yourself hurt not knowing it's beyond your body's ability to repair itself without dying.

His adoptive mum (i assume she took him in after the whole thing with the first and maybe second movie) was just trying to protect her son and her property and these assholes just assumed they owned it without actually looking at their files. Poor Bubba just wanted to go home and he's being bothered by the people who killed the woman kind enough to take him in and love him. Justice for Bubba, honestly. Only one he shouldn't have killed was the trucker dude but you know, casualties happen.

In the original movie that takes place in 1974. Leatherface is an 26 year old adult. Now in the 2022 version there's the picture of a child/young teen leatherface with the picture dated 1975. They screwed up with that one too

It's right, he wouldn't have been in the orphanage during the first murdering spree

You know you're in for a doozy when Flixie has to put "What went wrong" in the title.

Sally couldn’t fire the shotgun pointblank not because she was out of ammo but because LF has his hand below the pump action, not letting her rack a new round.

There were a lot of dumb moments in this one but I really enjoyed yelling at the characters through my tv. Also I’m trying to figure out how that chainsaw cut through a steel pipe like it was butter 19:03

I agree I could see his death coming once Dante left the orphanage and almost wanted to turn it off at that point. I liked what we saw of his character and his was the only death I cared about.

Glad they gave my boy Leatherface Michael Myers bullet resistance and Jason's teleportation abilities, much needed buff 😂

The fact that you forgot about the prequel to the '03 remake entirely is so funny to me just because that was the first TCM movie I ever saw. I was like, 11 at the time. It's burned into my mind especially because directly afterwards I went down for dinner and it was steak. Medium rare, just how I like it. First and only time I ever picked at a steak unenthusiasticly and didn't tear into it like an animal lol

I like how nobody else in this town heard the active gunbattle complete with screams and chaninsaw noises going on. This town apparently consisted of like 4 or 5 people, 3 of which died in that initial car crash.

22:05 LMAO Leatherface suddenly turns into Edmund Kemper, and explains everything to Sally 😆 I think she just fails to rack the AR, not that the safety was on. She could've paid attention when the guy did it earlier in the movie 🙄
