Cool video Thomas ! Did a bunch of Texas coastal duck hunts when I lived in Austin. There was great public hunts on Matagorda Island. Had a Texas Parks ferry for 10 bucks from Port O'CONNOR for the weekend (Friday am. to Sunday afternoon) Had nice barracks with full kitchens etc etc.or you could camp. You drew for blinds on Saturday and Sunday mornings and were dropped off by TP Rangers to hunt on freshwater ponds along the spine of the Island. Some of the best public duck hunting I had done till I got all my leases 30 minutes from my home.

Thanks Sly! I wish I had more time to explore the public options when I was down there because that sounds like a whole adventure in itself if the ferry is still going on. We were hunting and fishing just south of there this day

Yeah Thomas Matgorda Island was a real treasure. Unfortunately the ferry and public hunting run by the rangers has been discontinued years ago. The middle and lower Texas coast and inland bays are the wintering ground of the largest population of Redheads in North America. Back in the 70s that area also had the largest population of wintering Pintail. The sandy

Bottom and sarrow grass is what attracts the Redheads and Pintail.
