The reason it is called 2-3/8 or 2-7/8 is because it is upset tubing and not pipe and it certainly isn’t drill stem. Drill stem is much larger in diameter and heavier. It is what is used to attach the bit to and drill the wells. This stuff you are building your fence out of is upset tubing which is used to get the oil out of the well once it is drilled. It would twist up like a pretzel if they tried to use it as drill stem. I know lots of people call it drill stem but it ain’t.

That's one stout looking fence. I like that you used pipe for the intermediary connection rather than the more commonly used and cheaper sucker rods. We've build fences with sucker rods but they are so dang hard to get a good weld sometimes the welds break and leave portions of the fence dangling.

I wish I could get 10 dollars a post here! Also use a string line but the rock is so bad here in some places it takes an auger and concrete to set steel posts. Lucky for you the pipe you used is thick wall and unlikely to bend when being hit. Never saw pipe saddles cut with a plasma cutter before. I hate cleaning metal so if I was ever able to find pipe like that I would also have performed electrolysis first to make cleaning easier. I enjoy your videos, too bad you have to work alone!

Pipe around here right now is $90 per joint. If oil prices ever really drop, it will go down to $45. The further you are from active drilling the more it will cost. 6 hours west of here they are drilling Iike crazy so it's pretty cheap. Pipe saddles I got from a welding supply store but Amazon has the same ones.
@andrewsanders8167
@andrewsanders8167 3 жыл бұрын
On your joints it's best to side a foot of 2 3/8ths inside do like there you put slices. Those saddles or copes would have been much easier with a chop saw. Set saw at 32 degrees. Your mind makes you think it has to be cut half circle but it's not it's a flat cut. A grinder would have been easier with a cut off wheel to cut on post that plasma cutter. When you cut at 32 degrees it already beveled for weld. Your post was a little short to just drive but should be fine. I just had to stand one back up that had drove 8 foot post and was trying to fall over in only 5 years. When I drive I make a t post and drive Evey 5th one. Just saddle a 2 foot peace of scrape and weld then drive tell t is a few inches under ground just dig out trench with shovel. I have fences I put in 30 years ago that are still perfect

I am just curious, not being critical. Why are you cutting off the coupler for the top rail? I was concerned the threads wouldn't allow me to couple the pipes together, but with a little wire brushing and a bit of silicon spray on the threads, I have been able to thread them up pretty well
@LewisRenovation
