People forget that Texas was ranked #1 pre-season. They recruited a top setter (#2 I believe) and returned everyone vital to their win last year except Eggleston and Fleck, who were adequately replaced. I would even argue that Skinner is better than Eggleston. This is not that underdog story everyone thinks it is. They just needed to put the pieces together.

"not the underdog story"... what else did you want, they almost lost to Tennessee, they faced match point, one point could have changed this entire outcome... and were ranked 7th, below Oregon and Louisville who the committee believed was better (take that with a grain of salt, unfortunately the committee is biased most of the time, NCAA has shown their dislike for Texas on many occasions even in the media after Texas was in the final, showing way more love to Nebraska before the match), plus everyone believed Texas would lose to Tennessee including the "credible" Michella Chester and Emily Ehman, despite all of that, Texas came back to win and handled the top 3 overall seeds in a dominating fashion but not without executing their plan, it's easy to come up with a plan, it's super hard to make the best serve receiving team in the nation crack like that in a national championship. This is definitely an underdog story, and putting new pieces together to peak like that is not easy by any means, give Texas the credit they deserve, cause no one had them beating Stanford, Wisconsin, and Nebraska.

After analyzing this game very hard, I noticed that Texas almost RARELY served the ball to Lexi Rodriguez. and the times they did serve her, she hadn’t passed a ball in i don’t know how many plays, so they probably served her because she was cold and not in a groove. you could tell because she shanked a couple balls and after they served her, they would serve a different passer. Texas really did their homework for this match. And also for John Cook to call out Asjia O’Neal for being apart of Team USA and getting more practice, uhhh sir, hate to break it to you but it wasn’t just Asjia getting the aces. Maddi, Ella, Carissa and Keilei were getting their aces too
@minhduong1484

John Cook could have taken the high road and turned comments into a compliment. If he said something to the effect, "Well, you can see why Team USA picked her to play with them this summer . . ." that would have gone over better. But he made it seem like sour grapes. Yes she's a 6th year student but she's only played 5 years. Cook had 6th year students before like Stivrins and Caffey so it appears hypocritical of him to comment on O'Neal's 6th year. The other thing I do not understand is his comment about her serving. One of his assistants and former Husker, Jordan Larsen, played on Team USA as late as last year. Larsen plans to re-join Team USA for Paris 2024. Larsen is a good server so you would think her almost 15 years of Team USA and international experience would help the Huskers more than one summer that O'Neal got.

@@minhduong1484 his interview was full of contradictions. but I feel like had it been any other team BUT Texas to beat Nebraska, he wouldn’t have been mad. But it’s the fact that they lost miserably and also the history of players from both teams that transfer to each school as well that has Cook bothered. The fact that Keilei & Kayla transferred and won a championship with Texas, and now the fact that Whitney is transferring over too and we had Ayden Ames de-commit from Nebraska to go to Texas. John Cook may be a little salty that Texas is now taking over the collegiate volleyball world. Nebraska and Texas are neck and neck as far as completion goes and are head and shoulders above most teams but only one school wants to and can only be on top, so they both go back and forth trying to be the top dog for sure, and heated emotions get involved unfortunately.
@minhduong1484

@@danielenriquez8316 The Ayden Ames situation was interesting as it was so sudden. She committed in the summer but decommitted by November. That can happen but usually it is years between the two events. In the end we do not know the exact reason but it might have nothing to do with the two volleyball programs. Her family lives near Dallas and a 4 hour drive for her family to see her play in Austin might have been easier than the 10 hr drive to see her play in Lincoln.

I’ve watched this game probably 20 times and the announcers just make me so much happier that Texas swept Nebraska. They couldn’t stop fangirling even when Nebraska was losing miserably, and it was so annoying. Every time Nebraska got a point, it was a huge deal. When Texas went on an 11-0 run with 4 aces they had the same energy as Nebraska’s 3-0 run right before. Ella doesn’t set a perfect ball, they’re all “that ball was just too low for ___” and “Swindle needed to get her feet under the ball,” but Bergen Reilly doesn’t even attempt to get second contact on 1/3 of the balls and they say nothing. Also, they’re talking about how she played on varsity in the 8th grade for 20 seconds like that means something in the Championship. Ella had 5 kills and they’re not hyping her up that much, but Bergen does one good deep corner dump and they’re all “Texas knew she likes to do that, they knew it was coming, and still couldn’t get it”. They hyped up Lexi Rodriguez, saying Texas wouldn’t serve at her because she was too good, and she got aced a couple points later. Akana, Halter, and Barnes laid out for every ball, got assists, had amazing hitter coverage, and all got at least one ace, and they barely mentioned them at all. Even when they hyped up Jenna Wenaas, they couldn’t stop mentioning that she wasn’t playing super well early in the season, and usually not in a “look how far she’s come” way. Harper Murray shanks almost every ball served or hit at her, and they talk about how amazing she is when she gets one kill. There was not a single point in the game where they weren’t obviously rooting for Nebraska. The refs are a whole other conversation but bias like this shouldn’t be allowed from announcers.

I think that at the beginning of the season, the Texas losses were caused because they were missing the leadership that Eggleston carried the year prior. It took her a couple of games to ease in, but Skinner rose to the occasion. Her play is undeniably elite, and her poise lead to leadership. She has the “killer mentality”. Their serve receive is fine as well as everything else. People forget that they were 33-1 coming into the tournament. What they need is the right psyche to forget errors, hunker down and move on. In hindsight maybe they should have taken out Murray for a while. The problem is if they took out everyone that had a bad pass, they would have taken out most of the team. Players that got aced: Murray, Batenhorst, Beason, Choboy, and Rodriguez. Nebraska did put in subs and they almost got aced: Kubik and Boesiger. Every time Nebraska tried to adjust their passing, Texas countered by attacking the weakest player in the rotation.
