I loved the GBA version to bits as a kid and I thought the voice acting was badass, since hardly any other GBA games at the time even had voice acting. But having grown up I can definitely see how goofy the english voices are. "WhAt tHe HeCk iS tHat?!"

Dhaos is the ten-foot-tall evil warlock dude. The little guy with the deep voice (who either speaks elegantly, or hams it up in a bad English accent, depending on the version) is Morrison. But yeah, the contrast just makes it even more hilarious.

One thing I will say is that in every version Morrison sounds like the villain and Dhaos sounds like the protagonist and it makes sense here too - he does sound like a 2000's era protagonist from an anime dub...

Then again he kind of casually and graphically blows alway your moral enemy in front of you on your first introduction. Your parents standing a desperate chance in the intro is impressive in hindsight.

@@lucasgoes3065 This proves that the healer Mint's mother did not level up in the 1st place. I mean think what happens if you were Mint and you did not level up. Mint won't have the power to revive. Maybe Cless's father and his party member never learns to use items and did not level up. As a matter of fact, Dhaos went easy on all Morrison's party members. I mean think what happens if you were Cless and you had Arche to cast a spell of Indignation. Look at Cless's father at 1:12. After that swordman got hit, he did not move, then Dhaos was prepared to use either Dhaos Laser or Corridor. Morrison interrupted Dhaos's casting spell at 1:19. If you were playing as Cless, I don't think Arche's Indignation spell have the power to interrupt Dhaos's spell unlike Morrison's Indignation spell. The only way to interrupt Dhaos's spell was for Cless to use a sword. If using Cless, Dhaos is not just going to hit once and give the party members a break.

@@nahuelescobar4509 OK! Whether it is father, mother or ancestor, they were not even the level up type of character in the intro. It proves Mint's mother must of mastered her healing powers better then her distant ancestor or mother or grandmother. Miguel must of been a better swordsman then his own father or grandfather or ancestor. Then in turn, Cless becomes a better swordsman then his father and Mint must of turned out to be a better healer then her mother.

The PS1 is the better version in my opinion,too bad my ass went on and accidentally deleted my save man I don't wanna go through the Moira caves anymore,also played 2 hours Tales of Destiny and didn't like it,hope I like Tales of Eternia

Funny that the GBA acts more like if the dude were casting a Massive spell right over him and he is like _"WHAT THE _*_HECK_*_ IS _*_THAT_*_-!"_ Like, it matches perfectly with the Spell Animation, sad that they did not gave the wizard a badass casting spell to symbolize how much powerful he was making the attack

It was cool game, and the Dwarven Ruins extra dungeon really does good for it. But I hated the somewhat slow pace of the fights lmao it made the battles a little too easy even on hard mode. I loved their version of Fighting of the Spirit though.

A weird trope in JRPG, where the members of the main cast of the game always ends up fucking each other but another group that goes through the same thing but is not the main cast (i.e. "The Legendary Heroes") never end up fucking each other.

And I think this is also the only non-Japanese release as well (not sure if other languages besides English got the GBA release) The game really deserves better :/

While I loved the GBA Tales of Phantasia in my youth, this version is most definitely the worst. xD It sounds like the voice actors had no idea what was going on or how to pronounce stuff while they were also holding a hand in front of their mouth while speaking.

When i played this as a kid, I thought the voice acting sounded kinda funky but didn't really think about it too much. Now that I found out how many other versions of this game there are, I can't help but chuckle at how silly the GBA voices sound xD

The GBA version was basically a launch title for the GBA in Japan (which is why the colors are so saturated - it was designed for the OG GBA screen without backlighting). The English release came out at the very end of the GBA's lifespan and was mostly pushed by Nintendo hoping to extend interest in the GBA and also make a quick cash-in on the success of Symphonia on the Gamecube. Sadly, it didn't really get the resources it deserved.

When you went into Dhaos's castle, that was exactly what Morrison went through. You saw the intro. Morrison's last move was casting Indignation on Dhaos. That right there proves it was in Dhaos's castle based on how the background was shown. So you pretty much made it to a point where Morrison's party went to. That was exactly the same place Morrison and his party members sealed Dhaos away. Before your GBA was stolen, at least you went through what Morrison and the party members went through which is being in Dhaos's castle.

I remember being a youth and seeing this game TALES OF PHANTASIA (J) on that roms website back in the day.... then through searchs, I found a fanmade translation which i used to modify the rom. This game IS a masterpiece, a gem, I can't even believe it was SNES. The depght of the story, the game play, VOICES, amazing soundtracks... it got everything. 1990 through 2005's were trully the golden age.

The Intro of the *1st Antag & The Beginning* of how the Tales Of series 1st started it's storyline while it's sequels spanned over *17 back to back games in it's series with most of em spanning followups to sequels & even it's own anime spoof series* (Xillia, Symphonia, & Arise) it's deemed as an ARPG in the Modern games but the Classics were Turn & Fast Paced though. it's overall music score was also energtic to put pace into your battles while it's Bosses (excluding the main villains who own there *own main theme* once they enter the plot* of the story) are to test & even use what you've learned to your *fullest extent* & once it's all over full circle? ..you'll either be wanting more or... try out the next 1 in line that shows up. 😐

It is proven that Dhaos had already leveled up compared to Vesperia. I mean a swordman alone cannot defeat Dhaos. A magic user alone cannot defeat Dhaos. Archer alone cannot defeat Dhaos. The one who summoned creatures alone does not defeat Dhaos. This tells us all that in Tales of Phantasia, it takes a team to defeat Dhaos while in Tales of Versperia, it takes 1 person to beat Dhaos.

It is possible that Dhaos probably wasn't as powerful compared to present day Dhaos. That could be why when Cless and Mint's distant ancestor were fighting Dhaos, they were on easy mode. If it were Cless, 1 punch won't make Cless freeze in fear just like Cless's great grandfather. And Dhaos would not just give Cless's 1 punch and then cast a spell only to get his spell interrupted by Morrison. I mean when Arche casts Indignation, Arche does not have to chant and could easily go straight to casting Indignation. If Arche were to attempt to cast, it won't interrupt Dhaos' casting that easily. So maybe back then, Dhaos was not as powerful. If you compare this game to Tales of Versperia, Dhaos is known to be a weak fighter. It is proven that Dhaos had already leveled up compared to Vesperia. I mean a swordman alone cannot defeat Dhaos. A magic user alone cannot defeat Dhaos. Archer alone cannot defeat Dhaos.
