I love my 800s IMO it does not need a bearing upgrade and it is very hard to induce a backlash

Great real. I agree no need for a bearing upgrade it does what I need.I can cast comfortably 3.9g crank I prefer it to my 21 zillion which I bought to sight squid. I Paired the Alphas with a blazon 68bfs 12lb sunline braid and 8lb leader.

Great Vid... I know this vid is a year old , but I just stumbled on it, I picked up my SV TW 800-S about 6 months ago, Luv it, I have it on a 7' 1" Gomexus, medium/fast rod, rated 8# - 15# line & 1/8 - 5/8 oz lures. I have it spooled up with 10# Trilene Big Game mono, casts like a dream and very smooth retrieve. I use this set-up as an all-round , do everything combo... spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, jigs (up to 3/8's) T-rigged worms & creature baits , weightless flukes, it's just so versatile. Anyways great vid !!

Have you noticed a hole cut out on the inside of the reel near the line guide, forward of the spool? It would be on the opposite side of the handle side. My alphas sv tw (non-shallow spool) has it, and I’ve noticed it in other videos as well. I’m concerned that saltwater would be misted into that opening while casting, and i’m worried it can get saltwater in the frame, getting into the brake dial, side-plate bearing, spool rotor, etc. Have you had any problems using it on saltwater?

Im one of the first to buy gear just to buy it, but to be honest, I see zero reason for this real. It doesn't do anything the zillion can't. The zillion can damn near bfs. Edited to say: I understand it's about $60 less than a zillion. If ypur ordering from Japan and don't spring for a Zillion because it's 60 more, we are very different people. Also, for this cost, buy a Curado 150mgl. It compares to zillion. Its a phenomenal reel for 200.

Yeah I agree. I even sold my new metanium after receiving the zillion. Metanium didn’t do anything the zillion couldn’t. Plus zillion palmed better for me.

@@Cjmm007 I have bothe the newer metanium and the shallow edition. I like buying gear. It takes both of those metaniums to fill the role of one of my zillions. Funny enough, the Curado 150mgl is the same type of reel as the zillion. Both toss very light tackle very well and both toss heavy tackle like topwaters and corkies very well. The metaniums do one thing excellent, but they aren't an all around versatile choice.

Can't wait to see you put this reel into action on some Redfish. Looking for a reel for the old18 Bouancy UL I just ordered for bass and panfish...How would you stack this against the Diawa gekkabijin or Shimano Aldebaran for BFS duty? Will be mainly fishing from shore. What would be your choice?

It’s not a BFS reel. It’s a versatile reel that can throw finesse and heavier lures if needed. Aldebaran BFS and Gekkabijin can’t do that.

I like to throw baits like wacky rigs or flick shake on a baitcast. But I'm still fishing submerged grass so I need enough drag power and line weight to pull the fish away from the grass. I have the Alphas SV TW 800HL and I tried it for the lighter stuff. It did not cast them as well as I'd hoped. Maybe putting Hedgehog Air bearings in it would solve this? My Curado 70k MGL would out cast it with those baits. The JDM Metaniums are even better. I have no experience with the 800S, so maybe the shallow spool would have done the trick? I like my Alphas though and I use it on my shallow squarebill rod. I just bought the Metanium Shallow Edition (used your code, thanks!) and wow is that thing light. 5.8 oz I beleive. BTW, the Met shallow has an aluminum gear VS the brass gear in the Alphas.

I had a 70 mgl curado, but when I got my 150mgl I saw it does everything the 70 can do and then some. I am becoming less and less impressed with my metaniums (shallow and not shallow). I need both those reels to do what a single Zillion or even my curado 150mgl can do. I love buying gear. It is very hard to go wrong with quality reels today. We are living in an amazing time for gear junkies.

@@ETuss713 I have a JDM Zillion. Great reel. It just comes down to what fits/palms better in my hands. The Alphas palms very well for me. The Zillion (and the Tatulas I have) are wider in the front.

As long as you have it tuned and with correct rod and line, you should have no problems. It’s an excellent choice for freshwater use.

I know this is off topic but have you received any rods from Old 18 with bent guides? I bought a Buoyancy from them and one of the guides in the middle was bent upwards.

You can easily bend them back into shape. If not, give them an email. They’ll take care of you.

@@RXAngler they gave me the choice of bending it myself, sending it back so they can bend it, or drive an hour to exchange it for another one. The more metal bends the weaker it gets. I don't see bending it back as the proper solution since it was packaged already bent. A guide in the middle of the rod doesn't get bent while sitting in a mailing tube which is what they claimed happened.
