We were crazy before the Simtec. But it helps. It IS really really potent. I usually mask up before even opening it up,

Chris, what detail gun are you using? My detail gun doesn't get near the fine output you get. You get some awesome results! Thanks, y'all do great work!!
@jimmpanik34024 жыл бұрын
silly question: why not have the faces vertical rather than spraying down?
@TexasToastGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Well, you can do whatever you want, the stand allows you to maneuver the guitar anyway you like
@jimmpanik34024 жыл бұрын
@@TexasToastGuitars I was just wondering if you get a better result from Spring at a vertical surface. I'm not a painter, but I was thinking of things like over spray.

What brand was the little detail gun,does it have different tips available,what is your air pressure at the tip?
@TexasToastGuitars6 жыл бұрын
I'll see if I can get Chris to answer this... I have no idea.
@texastoastchris6 жыл бұрын
I bought that gun probably 20 years ago, its a cheap “Detail” gun, probably not much better than the little detail guns at harbor freight. No extra tips. It was my first gravity fed gun. I use around 3-5 psi at the tip when spraying small patterns with it. It’s capable of spraying bigger, but I only use it for this little stuff now. Matt hates it.
@TexasToastGuitars6 жыл бұрын
I really do, you should hear some of the screaming matches we have over this paint gun. It would actually make for really great TV show drama. I'd throw stuff if that's what it would take
@brunoCondor6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, my question was actually, how big is the opening of the nozzle ? Is it a 0.8mm or a 1mm nozzle ? I'm gonna buy one like that and was wondering what's the best. I think a 0.8 mm nozzle will be more like an Airbrush gun and a 1 mm would be more suitable, because you can regulate it in various ways, also the pressure. And how wide can you go with full with ? I'll paint cars for 30 years and i think for this little surface, i mean the guitar, you don't need a regular car paint gun with a 1.3 or 1.4 nozzle standard. A little one is better to control i think. Thanks Chris. Have a nice day.
@texastoastchris6 жыл бұрын
I think it's a 1.0 - it will go 4-6" wide with more air pressure. I bought it 20+ years ago to use painting bicycle frames. I even did graphics like flame fades with it. Thanks for the question!

@GosselinCreative6 жыл бұрын
Chris, when you were doing the burst, I notice that you kept the guitar body parallel to the ground and shot down, rather than rotating the body so it was perpendicular to the ground and shooting at it straight on. Any reason why? I was always taught not to shoot at more than a 30 degree angle, but maybe that was just with rattle cans. And, of course, I don't have nearly the experience you do in the spray booth.
@texastoastchris6 жыл бұрын
Part of the technique is because of the stand we use - I could hang the guitar, but this stand holds it really securely, and I can rotate it any direction I need. Different bursts require unique approaches to each. I really like these really thin bursts we have done lately. Thanks for the question!

thats a transparent black finish? shoot the sides and about a half inch in back and front? call it a day? what about prep? what's that silvery stuff on the body?

I don't know
@salmonline6 жыл бұрын
Why isn't that body another 2 feet off the ground so you don't have to hunch to paint. I mean, the engine stand is 'cool' and all, but......lol...
@TexasToastGuitars6 жыл бұрын
The Engine stand paint jig works really well for just about everything. The way that we attach our set neck guitars and rotate them around the axis of the stand means that sometimes they are higher off the ground than others. Fortunately, we are still ambulatory enough to squat when needed. One time a guy claiming to be a painter at PRS said our stand was stupid. I was like... Wait, the third largest electric guitar maker in America has a better paint rig than me in my tough shed spray booth?
