Really nice model. Did you guys build it? Im working on something similar and me and my university colleagues are wondering if we can buy those piezometric plastic tubes (wells). Can you tell me which are dimensions of the aqcuifer?
@TexasWaterDevelopmentBoard8 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the groundwater model. The dimensions of this model are 19.5 long x 12 in high x 8 in deep. We did not build the model but if you'd like to to know which company built it, please send us an email at twdbcommunications@twdb.texas.gov. Thanks for watching our video!

really awesome model but please explain what a hydraulic head is and why there are different levels in the wells. Why is the confined aquifer under pressure and how are the 2 springs working?
@TexasWaterDevelopmentBoard6 жыл бұрын
Here goes. This is a complicated subject! A hydraulic head is the pressure of water in an aquifer, usually expressed in elevation, in feet about sea level. There are different levels in wells because they can be screened at different depths and in different types of geologic formations. Water levels also change due to pumping, drought, and rain. A confined aquifer is under pressure because an impermeable layer of sediment lies on top and restricts the upward movement of water. As a result, water pressure can build up. And, finally, a spring occurs when groundwater intersects the land and water flows out of the aquifer onto the land.

Thank you very much! I just visited Berkeley Springs (1000 to 2000 gpm), hence my newfound interest in springs and aquifers :)

A 2-dimensional enclosure is not a cross-section view of what really takes place in nature. The glass side makes it a completely different situation, and a two-square-foot 2-d model is nothing like what happens in, let's say, an area of 500 x 500m, going 100m deep; the ratios are just incomparable !!!

I am offended by the word aquitard. very insensitive
@frogbear027 жыл бұрын
i assume you mean this mockingly of those whom complain, but tard basically means slow or to slow, so aquatard is somthing that slows water.
