I am so excited you chose to use denim in this, your fabric manipulation process video. I know after watching your first fabric manipulation video it inspired me to look at the denim i had sitting in my trash can and go on to tell you i was going to use that ratty old fabric for such a project Janet, i truly thought it was a brilliant idea until i really thought about it and decided i had no idea how to even proceed. . Well Janet, you have now figured that out for me. and I truly feel like the Little Engine That Could. I had the best time with you in the haberdashery shop. That is the exact kind of place i would love to fill with people , see what they are buying and what projects they had in mind. I imagine myself walking around the shop with my coffee sharing ideas and listening to the sounds of creativity all around me . And then , on the other side of the coin, It's also the kind of shop that i would love just to have all to myself . so because i threw out that old pair of jeans i needed to replace them. I went off to the store and found the perfect pair of jeans ........perfect because they required no alternations. I need to mention now these are jeans with the ripped up pieces throughout. The other reason I called them perfect is because they were marked half price. When i showed them to my husband he said..." and if you would have paid full price you could actually have jeans with no rips or holes in them " Interesting comment coming from him. One of the first things my future mother in law had said to me was how when my husband was a preschooler he was so active she had to practically put patches on his jeans weekly because he always ended up with big holes in his jeans. I should clarify he was not my husband when he was a preschooler rofl rofl Always loving your vids where you, Freddie and the boys are all hanging around together having a great family time. i always feel we are so privileged to gather together with you and your family

Barb’ra good morning lovely to see you, oh that reminds me so much of Ben, patches on the patches of his school trousers, not even making it through the first day of school without producing a hole in the knees of his school trousers. Well a slide tackle on concrete would do that ! As soon as you mentioned denim, I was up to the challenge. This weeks challenge is 2 very worn only fit for rags T shirts Sam handed to me ! 🤔 I forgot to mention in the video, the haberdashery shop was indeed filled with interesting people. One young lady in her embellished vintage dress and hand knitted tank top was deliberating over subtle differences in the blue threads. Firstly I complimented her on her attire and then moved on to the little swatch of blue satin in her hand. She explained she was a buyer for the Royal Opera house and this was for a costume, wow. Go gently Barb’ra

I’ve just completed an upcyled denim bag using this raw edge reverse appliqué technique. I learned it around twenty years ago whilst studying textiles. I used vintage sari fabric behind the bag panels. I don’t cut beyond the first layer but choose my colours carefully. I was lucky to get some leather leftovers from farrier aprons. I pieced them together with Sari yarn to create a strap. I’m lucky enough to have three singer machines. Two 99k and one 66k.

I loved this video. First that shop was like going into a bakery for me. The way buttons were displayed was so wonderful! I wish we had shops in my little town like this. All those laces and appliqués! Idk how I could have controlled myself. If you ever go to an art supply shop, I may pass out. If its anything like the ones in Venice, very apothacary like as I imagine. Sigh. It brings you joy just to shop. We have lost all these charming shops to chains and covid, and its not special anymore to go anywhere in person to shop. Oh I love when you guys have a show and tell with your family. Freddy is the boss! he is adorable🖤 I could watch your family vlogs all day. You guys have too much fun. Especially playing boardgames and snacking. My brother and I have a big collection and painting the figurines will take a lifetime. But that is another hobby. That pocket turned out great. I would put it on my jeans, a bag or journal🩷💜🩷💜🩷

@@janetnash Yes Janet everyone has such different tastes in yarn and sewing notions! I have denim and was not sure how to use it. But Iv seen someone use the reverse of the blue denim, and make backings for cardstock and embellish and you never know its denim. If you want things looking dated and vintage before the days of denim. But, I had to hem a few jeans so the cuttoffs need to turn into things. I wanted to try staining denim. You can distress it with a craft knife. maybe even burning edges. I missed the name of the haberdashery shop, but it looked like they sell online.
