Île Rodrigues : le paradis des récifs coraliens

Surnommée la "Cendrillon des Mascareignes", l'île Rodrigues est une petite île située à environ 650 km au nord-est de l'île Maurice. Fun fact Rodrigues formation might have started earlier than Mauritius or Reunion but the process stopped and the proto island eroded away. Then the volcanism restarted millions of years later after the formation of Mauritius and Reunion to give us the island as it is today. The limestone deposit is much younger forming only a few tens of thousand years ago. Wind carried sand that compacted over time. The lower sea level at the time might have played a role since it was at the time of a glacial period and most of the waters were locked as ice at the poles at some points the sea level was around 130m below the current sea level. The history of the mascarene islands and the other islands, atolls and bank along the mascarene plateau geology is quite fascinating
