Clarifications & Corrections:
3:10 - Soldier is talking about Amelia Earhart's love for honey, not Pyro's gender. The joke in its entirety is of course a reference to community speculation about Pyro's gender, but Soldier himself does not have the suspicion. It is all a set up for the next page where he is asking Pyro to move to reveal the honey. What Soldier "always knew" was Amelia Earhart's love for honey www.teamfortress.com/tf03_col....
3:19 - Correction, we only meet 8 of TFC because there is no Medic. But still, the other 7 are indeed all apparently male.
4:45 - "Heavy has a degree in Russian literature" - Whilst the Poker Night is a very high quality cameo from Heavy, it is not written nor published by Valve so lore "revealed" there doesn't belong in this video.
10:12 - I know the Meet the Medic short suggests otherwise, but the sources of "no formal medical training" are much stronger "canon" than the punchline "that's how I lost my medical licence" in the short. Check the pinned comment for a more detailed explanation.

When you think about it, Heavy's friendship with Medic makes sense lore-wise. Heavy states that he's "yet to meet a man who can outsmart bullet", and Medic _is_ a man who can outsmart a bullet. And death. And the Devil.

One of my favorite facts about the mercs is how Medic's blatant ignorance of the hypocratic oath does not mean he doesn't have at least some inkling of how very odd his life is; as when Pauling asks how Medic is reviving them just by pouring a mix of the partially incongruous blood types into each of their bodies; he lightheartedly acknowledges it makes no sense and shouldn't be working. Then when she tries to parse the non-existent logic he becomes very serious about not questioning it in the moment.

Fun fact: Scout’s first name, Jeremy, was inspired by Jerma985 (Jeremy Elbertson). When TF2 was being written as a TV show, one of the writers was a fan of Jerma’s TF2 content, and found Jeremy looked strikingly similar to the scout. (I’m not kidding, by the way. You can look this up.)

My favorite fact about the mercs is that if you play as red scout, you can sometimes here a bird cooing. There’s also a very small chance of a bird flying out of red scout when hes killed, both in reference to the ending of meet the medic

I know the canon validity of this is dubious at best, but we learn quite a bit about Heavy from his guest appearance in the game Poker Night at the Inventory Here is a couple of them: - Heavy got his PHD in literature from the Soviet College of Mines, Farms and Science. Heavy also uses his PHD in his line of work "more than you think" - When asked by Tycho if he has any hobbies, Heavy states he collects rare coins. However, he only does so to melt them down and create custom bullets for his miniguns (which could be why his guns are so expensive to fire). - Heavy has taken boxing classes. In his school, students had to sign up for either goat herding or boxing. He didn't like it at first but grew to love it. - Heavy finds red-haired women attractive. This comes up after Tycho mentions his girlfrend. - Heavy's favorite movies are The Dirty Dozen and the first twenty minutes of Rocky IV. -Heavy's favorite book is Tsar/King Hunger by Leonid Andreyev - Heavy has recurring nightmares of either himself or his teammates being killed.

You missed a large portion of Demoman's backstory. The parents we see in the comics ARE his biological ones. They simply abandoned him at birth until his "Degroot Blood" manifested when he accidentally blew up his adoptive parents. His real parents then immediately returned to take him in and teach him how to harness explosives. This is all part of an old and extremely unnecessary family tradition, designed to ensure that Degroots never rely on (or get attached to) their parents. In a twisted way there's a tiny grain of logic to this, because Degroot tradition ALSO dictates that every Degroot will eventually blow themselves up, meaning it's important younger members of the family know how to cope without parents. Still, if you ever wonder why Demoman has a drinking problem, and why he sometimes breaks down and calls himself "jus' a one-eyed bloody monster," this is probably why. Dude had a ROUGH childhood.

It's unclear what the women do, however considering Demoman's mother has ALSO blinded herself via explosives, it's safe to say it also involves demolition. Perhaps Degroot women are tasked with experimenting on explosive formulas?

It’s heavily implied in meet the spy, that BOTH Scouts are actually brothers because Red Spy is canonically shown to be Jeremy’s father and he is shown to be in an intimate relationship with Blu scout’s mother

Jeremy IS the BLU Scout. In "A Fate Worse than Chess" we see it is the Red Spy and Blu Scout that Saxton hires for MvM and these two later star in the main comics. In the 4th Comic, Jeremy says to Saxton "You hired me, we're your mercs!". Also there are two hyperlinks in the main comics to A Smissmas Story and A fate worse than chess, in both Scout is BLU. The RED Scout disppeared after the Gravel Wars ended, we actually haven't seen him in a comic since 2011.

So even though all the mercs wear red coloured clothes, half of them used to be from Blu before the teams merged. The Red Scout disappeared after the Gravel Wars. Comic 1 to 6 Scout is the original Blu Scout.

There aren't any actual teams. There are just 9 characters who sometimes fight for the other teams because they're hired by both of them. So there is no RED Scout or BLU Scout, just Scout. This common mistake is so common and it's fucking infuriating.

@@toxic_shr00m In the Poopy Joe update it is specificially stated there are 18 mercenaries. In "Loose Canon" we see an entire team of nine BLU mercs in one panel, if we go by the "there are only 9" mercs idea then RED at that point would have had noone at all. We've seen both the Blu & Red Heavy and Soldier in the same comic in "Meet the Director". The Administrator went to extreme lengths in "WAR" and "Meet the Director" to stop Red and Blu mercs becoming friends and talking to each other. Why bother if they could swap teams at any point. All the evidence from the comics suggests there were indeed 18 mercs until MvM. Further evidence in "Shadow Boxers" where Soldier didn't know Heavy well, owing to the fact they used to fight on different teams. The 9 mercs only came from a cloing fan theory which is a fun read but has no evidence to back it up.

It’s different from a nickname because absolutely all Mikhails also go by “Misha”. Almost all Russian names have those “friendlier” variations. For instance, my full name is Victoria but shorten version would be Vica. So Misha IS Heavy’s name but the official passport version would be Mikhail.

You forgot to mention how musically tallented are our mercs: Scout can play bongos Soldier is great with brass instruments (Bugles and Trombone to be specific) Pyro propably knows how to play guitar (as his air guitar default melee taunt suggests). Engie loves his accoustic Guitar. Demoman not only plays his native bagpipes, but also was seen playing piano in "Expiration Date". Heavy really likes to sing, mostly russian classical and folk music, and, let's be honest here, Kazotsky Kick, while it's an all class taunt, is based on a traditional Ukrainian and Russian dance. It would make sense if it was Heavy who would have teached other classes the Kick. Medic can use his saw as a violin, plus he's great with accordeon. Sniper knows how to play sax and digderidoo. As of Spy, while he isn't shown to play any instrument, one can assume, that to impersonate other classes, he must have learned all of the above. Plus, in one of Miss Pauling's lines from Tough Break, The Spy is teaching her how to play piano, using electroshocks.

I think it's also worth mentioning that rumors started appearing after Scout's official name was revealed that he was named after Jerma985, a popular TF2 KZbinr at the time who now streams on Twitch and uploads the cut-down streams to his second channel, 2ndJerma. Years later it was confirmed that those rumors were true by one of the TF team members and one of the artists for the comics.

Actually they use he and she interchangeably in both the meet the team with scout saying "He's not here is she?" And in the comics quite often. And soldier never said he had a suspicion about pyro. It was building up to that but he actually had a suspicion that Emilia Earhart was transporting honey on her last flight.

That's the FNaF Mangle level of screwery I love about the comics towards Pyro's gender. Switching pronouns mid-sentence and using formal titles like Miss and Sir interchangeably are little troll details that are super cool to keep the Pyro's gender a secret. Very interesting.

Great video, as always, but I'd like to throw out some extra facts: - Pyroland isn't constantly rainbows and colours, a more accurate description of it would be an overexaggerated version of reality according to how Pyro feels like at the moment. We also see that the real Tom Jones is in Heaven playing foosball with angels but, in order not to break the illusion that he is Scout's father, the angels re-kill him before Scout notices his presence. This could all be a hallucination by an almost-dead Scout, but it's too funny not to mention. - Spy has a well-groomed beard under his balaclava, and has canonically grey hair, so he could be older than first impressions give off. - Demoman's mother is obviously blind, but so was his father. Apparently all members of the DeGroot family are expected to be blinded by explosives at a very early age, and the Demoman still having an eye left seems to be a disappointment to his family. - Soldier (who, by the way, has no military training whatsoever) went on a Nazi-killing spree in Europe, commemorating his own merits with self-made medals, in an effort to win the war for the Allies. However, unbeknownst to him, the war had long since ended. After some years of this strange crusade, he went back to America. - Medic did have some form of medical training and even obtained a medical license, but in Meet the Medic he comments on how he lost it after stealing a patient's skeleton. - The Engie's father is presumed to be the TFC's Engineer, who used to wear an identical outfit as his son's, minus the soldering goggles. Also, the blueprints for the TF2 Engineer's Sentry Gun, Teleporter and Dispenser seem to be a heritage from his own family, precisely Radighan Conagher, his grandfather.

Depending on the class you're playing as, the type of bread will be different. Favorite Tidbit: Remember the WAR! update when people pitted the BLU Soldier against the RED Demo to see who would get new items? For context, the reason they fought is as follows: The BLU Soldier and RED Demo apparently met outside of work and soon became good friends. The administrator found out about this, and (for reasons unknown) was afraid that they would start talking about work, which would in turn mean they would start talking about her. She went for the obvious approach: give them each new weapons until one ends the other. Eventually the pair found out, and became friends again, pretending that soldier won. Now, how does this fit in to the actual game? Well; If you don’t know what domination is in TF2, it’s a game mechanic where if you kill someone enough times in a row without them getting a single kill on you, it says in the kill feed that you’re “dominating” them. When you dominate someone, your character will say a voice line, that will depend on who you’re playing as and who you’re domming is playing as. If you are a Demo dominating a Soldier, the domination line is something along the lines of: “Take that! but we’re still friends, yeah?” I love that little hint to their friendship, even after being bribed to kill each-other.

After Scout dies, he meets God who is incredibly happy to see him, saying that Scout was "God's gift to women" so they can get laid with him. He gets really mad at mankind when he finds out Scout didn't have sex and actually planned to bring another flood/world disaster, but Scout kind of calmed him down to not blame mankind for being a bunch of dum-dums. After that he sends Scout back from the dead and giving mankind a second chance (to get laid). Also Tom Jones gets his neck snapped in Heaven again during this sequence so that's funny.

A few corrections from what I've understod from the lore: 1- Medic did have real medical training. But his medical license got revoked after a freak accident and abandoning a patient. ( At least if you trust that the medic is being truthful about his past ) 2- Miss Pauling accepted to go on a date with scout after the end of "the expiration date". I'd like to pretend there's hope goddamit. 3- Pyro isn't always in Pyromania. Her Pyromania is probably triggered by fire. As you can see in the comics she sees the world as dull and grey while working as a CEO but still can perceive it as it is. 4-From what I've heard Heavy isn't as obsessed with his gun as it's shown in the meet the team videos but rather likes to pretend like he is so that no one suspect nothing more of him more than a big dumb Brute. 5- Soldier was probably a bit more "sane" prior to the game's events. He was the most affected by the lead poisoning in 2fort. Edit: a few changes to better reflect how i got these information and how much i have confidence in them as facts.

You said that medic gas no medical training, but in the "meet the medic" animated short medic tells what sounds like a joke, and then medic says "and that is the story of how I lost my medical licens" which emplies that he had a medical licens and there for had at least a enough training to get it.

Also one of my favorite facts of them is that the pyroland isn't entirely how pyro sees the world. Yes the pyro is a bit mentally unstable, having a childlike personality, Being a pyromaniac obsessed with fire, disassociation with the real world, the pyroland itself is because of the goggles on their mask. Because it's an item all classes can wear, making the world look colorful or chearful. Pain sounds turning to laughter, domination and revenge in the kill feed becoming best friends and breaking up, and some maps get a pyroland rework. Now it's not as intense as we see from pyros point of view so it can be believed that they have some form of schiphrinia as well so maybe I was wrong with my initial statement

somebody else mentioned that it depends on their emotional state, which suggests that while the other mercs are happy doing their jobs, pyro is absolutely euphoric.

And they do love anything to do with fire which is why the world around the fire soldier and Pauling made attracted them so. But yeah, it does depend on the emotional state as much as everything else

As a new tf2 player, I always thought this game was just a goofy meme base, but now I know that it's much more than that and I wanna know a lot more about this game and it's story, starting from the tf2 classic Edit: and if possible a much more thoroughly detailed video about each and every character of the game and the story itself. Like idc about how big it is, even if it's bigger than the whole of one piece itself I'll sit through all of it and watch it

Only wanna throw in one more quick fact. Apparently, Soldier and Demoman are best friends, but the admin hated this. So she sent Ms. Pauling to say bad things behind the others back to one another, while also giving them weapons to kill each other with, saying that the offer was made to the other character and they accepted. This is even tho the offer was not made to either character before asking the other. This is shown through the in game voice lines that can sometimes happen when you kill the other character. Edit: I made a mistake, it is when Dominating the opposing character, not just killing.
