I feel like a clip size penalty on a weapon that encourages rocket jumping is a bad idea. The 5 rockets are great for doing longer jumps to get behind enemy lines.

I believe that the liberty launcher is one of the few items that fits its item set very well, pairing it with the reserved shooter or the shotgun leads to quick bursts of damage, which the faster rocket helps with. Also you can use it with the gardener as a trolldier but with a working gun.

I've believed for a while that they could remove the reduced damaged from rocket jumping and give it a faster firing speed or reload speed. So that it's still worse in a single shot, but it's able to deal damage faster.

I feel like a way to make this weapon more relevant and give it it’s own unique role in TF2 is to make the rockets deal more knockback as compensation for the damage penalty (and maybe remove the extra rocket as well just go it doesn’t have so many upsides) as with this additional upside will make the weapon a more “get off me” tool and a easier way to combo it with your other weapons like the Reserve Shooter

I've wanted a rocket launcher with extra knockback for so long now. Giving it to the LL though is a great idea. The extra knockback could even work well with the BASE Jumper giving you more time in the air.

I remember seeing somebody use this with the Reserve Shooter and Market Gardener. The RS helped you deal more damage up close (plus, the faster switching speed makes it pretty flexible) and the reduced Rocket Jumping damage + the extra rocket made you more mobile, which mean that going for these sweet sweet shovel crits was a bit easier than normally. I imagine that The Libery Launcher was meant to help you be more mobile, but make you deal less damage instead. However, it simply didn't work out, since rollouts are not that effective in your regular gameplay, and usually 4 rockets is enough to jump where you want to be. I really like this weapon, but I admit, it's not very good, unless you use it with a shotgun- then it's ok at least

with the reserve shooter, the primary makes up for the lack of gunboats. The extra rocket is literally to encourage rocket jumping but the play style is outdated since most classes strafe or the player has knowledge about air movement. Regardless, it has perks and quirks that invoke a more aggressive playstyle

The secret to using the Liberty Launcher is to pace your shots. Don’t fire off all five rockets at once. Pace yourself to use only two or three rockets between reloads, and it will serve you well. When it comes to fixing the weapon, the only fix needed is to drop the damage penalty from 25% to 20%. This means that each rocket is still lower damage than a stock rocket, but the damage done by all five rockets will be equal to the damage of four stock rockets.

I actually got into playing soldier because if the Liberty Launcher. The +1 more rocket feels so good to me I wouldn't want to see it gone. But it terms of DMG I was thinking about unique idea of balancing this weapon a little bit. What if the first and only first rocket we shoot after rocket jump would be mini-crit? I think it might pair nicely with dealing more DMG in cost of hurting yourself. And because mini-crits doesn't have DMG fall-off it wouldn't be finally that bad at long range. I think it would also be interesting to see more after-rocket-jump effects as it is in the airstrike. That's just my idea from soldier who didn't like to play soldier before trying out the Liberty Launcher.

Here are my suggestions to keep the concept of the damage penalty intact. 35% damage penalty +25% clip size +45% projectile speed -37% blast damage from rocket jumps +30% bigger blast radius +25% faster reloading +10% faster Uber build rate while at max ammo +45% higher knockback

Well, here's my take on how it could become useful. Remember the weapon set involving with the Liberty Launcher? I'm thinking of giving the launcher a slightly faster switch speed, and increased knockback to combine it with the Reserve Shooter. I would also nerf or remove the firing speed of the rocket and maybe bring it back to 4 clips instead of 5 or 3. I think a combo playstyle for Soldier would be really fun since my Soldier playstyle is either the DH or Hybrid Trolldier with either the Air Strike or The Original.

My idea to fix this is very simple. Take away the damage reduction for rocket jumping and replace it with being able to reload 25% faster or being able to shoot 25% faster. If they did this, it would be superior to the stock rocket launcher. Because you would be able to spit out more damage faster than the stock rocket launcher could.

I've always thought of it as an offensive Rocket Jumper (while completely ignoring how the rockets behave nothing like stock's). It's meant to be used as more of a secondary injunction with your other weapons and not as your primary damage dealer. Kinda like the Rocket Jumper but it can still do SOME damage if you ever need to fall back on it. Now whether it actually succeeds in that role is a different story but I feel like I get more use out of it when you treat it as a support tool and not as a regular launcher.

From what I've seen, it pairs well with the reserve shooter, since the airborne blast minicrits can make up for the LL's damage penalty if you can land your shots. Pairing it with the Market Gardner can also work for a hybrid trolldier that can get behind enemy lines for minimal damage while also having a good backup damage dealer.

I’m not a soldier main, but he’s my 2nd most played class and I have the most fun with him probably. I love the Liberty Launcher because it gets Soldier and makes him more generalized. I can take on every class and if I have enough skill, I can win. It does less damage, but it has a very slight less damage per clip than stock. Faster rockets make it harder to air blast, less rocket jump damage makes it easier to flank. If you use it (or the direct hit) a lot, like me, you can easily catch any class off-guard, and either kill them or get them very low, making your team easily able to kill them.

I’m not a game designer but I think something to make the Liberty “Launcher” more interesting is if it caused more knockback to you and your enemies. This would have 3 benefits: You’d be launched further when blast jumping, you can launch enemies away from objectives or off of cliffs, and it would have good synergy with the reserve shooter, since they’re meant to be part of a set anyways. The upsides and downside can stay the same since it should become more of a utility/combo rocket launcher instead of a full damage one, but again, I’m not sure how balanced that is. I do think it fits the name and the synergy with the reserve shooter though.

I was playing Hightower with someone who topscored using this They treated the liberty launcher as more of a secondary and used the panic attack as a primary Dive bombing people and then picking them off with the panic attack like some makeshift ranged troldier It was surprisingly effective and looked like an incredibly fun way to play

I would give it more knocback so that it matches the knocback of stock so that can be used in combo with the reserve shooter which is in the same set as it more rockets but less damage makes it a perfect combo weapon

the thing I don't understand about the liberty launcher is that it's meant to work well with the other items in it's set because it has reduced damage and the other set's weapons have niche uses to increase their damage, so why does it have a clip size increase? the faster rocket speed is understandable for trying to make it special and a valid side-grade to stock, and the blast jump damage reduction works well with the market gardener, even if it is a small bonus, but a lowered clip size makes more sense if you're trying to get more use out of your secondary and melee. The only thing that a higher clip size encourages is more use out of the weapon, and when that weapon deals decreased damage to enemies, well.. I think a good change would be to make the 25% damage penalty a 20% damage penalty, and for the weapon to deal increased knockback to targets. This would help the launcher synergize with the reserve shooter, and if you're good enough, the market gardener too. This should come at a downside of 25% reduced clip size. An idea with the weapon could be to increase blast radius in favor of keeping or even nerfing the 20% damage penalty to 25 or 50%, but this is rediculous and it's better to lessen the wall of text rather than feed into it.

I personally think it would be neat if the Liberty Launched had a rage bar, that when activated removed the 25% damage penalty and increased the blast radius for 3 seconds. I think it could be neat

It would just be as much of a "crutch" as it was accused of being in its original state. And it'd still have reverse synergy, arguably more, because of the damage penalty hindering how fast rage can be charged. (Also, how would that work while using a banner? Or while swapped to another weapon? It'd be a janky mechanic with or without bugs.) They either need to just revert it to its original state or do something else with it. It's worth mentioning that the damage penalty affects knockback, sometimes causing no knockback/knockup (could be a bug), affecting juggling muscle memory, as does the weird projectile speed % bonus; it's either gonna feel weird to use this launcher or to use any other launcher. The weapon is terrible in so many ways.

i have had way too many games where i topscore with this thing, the thing is people dont kmwo how to use it but it is actually pretty good, pair it with the panic attack to be able to rocket jump to people get in range shoot em with the launcher while falling hit them with the panic attack and rocket jump away with your extra rockets, this is an amazing launcher and i hate that people dont see it because they always want to use the damn gunboats with it

I like this video, your style, editing, this super weird but also kind of entertaining metaphor but when you get to your suggestion of how to fix it i can only say "I disagree STRONGLY" In my opinion it should have 5% damage penalty and only 4 rockets, or 10% penalty and current 5 rockets, thats it. Obviously its not ideal and Im open to other suggestions, but deployment speed penalty for a rocket launcher is a downside that very rarely would be realized. And reducing clip size for this weapon below 4 would make it weaker version of stock. But ye overall a very good video my guy.

Hey, Liberty Launcher fan here: it's not a weapon, it's a movement/putting-someone-in-the-air-to-get-minicrited-by-my-neat-little-shotgun tool. No that's not effective either. But I'd say I'm using all upsides and none of the downsides. Increased clip size/decreased self damage (decreased damage) = moar jumps increased clip size/speed = better prepared for airshotting. Yes that is what the direct hit can do too, no I am not good at using projectiles to airshot, even quick ones.

what i've learned is that the liberty launcher is the perfect opening rocket launcher in a match. you pick it as a sort of jack of all trades weapon because you don't know what your enemy is bringing to the table yet, and once you do, the next time you die,, you can switch to what you see is needed. and, once the enemy starts switching things up, you rinse and repeat the process

I've always thought this weapon needed a reload speed bonus to make the clip size more worth it. one change that would be really interesting would be switching the clip size bonus for a "first shot of clip always minicrits" bonus, effectively giving the first rocket normal damage and less fall-off. regarding the current viability of the weapon, I think it complements banners reasonable well, so long as you adopt more of a harasser playstyle, using the more generous rocket jumps and projectile speed to keep out of the enemies range and collect health/ammo while you build charge. it may also synergize with the panic attack, effectively specializing your primary/secondary for medium and close range respectively. side-side note: its actually quite good in mvm. the extra rocket speed synergizes with rocket specialist while also taking full advantage of specialist's explosive radius bonus, unlike the direct hit. the spread damage you do on big groups lets you have buff banner up constantly, which lets you stay further back, which also synergizes with the rocket speed and helps buff your team easier. staying further back lets you focus more on offensive upgrades too, which feeds back into more banner uptime and total damage.

I feel like it could be great as a support launcher to pair with banners. Imagine this: It does less damage still, but each point of damage counts twice for banners, chargjng them in half the time. That way you don't put out damage nearly as much still, but you can support and play with your team a lot more. The battalion's backup and the buff banner will be fully charged in 300 damage instead of 600, and the concheror will be charged in a measly 200 damage instead of 400. That would solidify it as a "I'm not here to do damage, I'm here to help my team do damage and or live" sort of deal

one overlooked use is using it for troldering with gunboats, that extra clip adds more mobility and if you fail a garden you always got damaging rockets to defend yourself.

I've found that the Liberty Launcher is surprisingly useful when I'm on defense at the last Control Point on maps like Upward or Badwater. With the extra rocket, faster firing speed, and the resupply cabinet so close by making reloads to full faster I can essentially spam rockets into the main choky path which helps wastes the attacking team's time (even more so when combined with a Banner).

I feel the best way to give this weapon a small edge in combat is to make it fire faster then other launchers, not as fast as the air strike can shoot but still faster so that way it can more easily deal that extra damage it needs before the enemy can react

The Liberty launcher is very effect if your using a Shotgun and The Market Gardener, that way you can be somewhat more aggresive

my personal favorite way to use the liberty launcher is actually with the full set, the less damage means it knocks people back less, which makes hitting shots with the reserve shooter easier and more consistent.

The perfect replacement stat for the increased clip size would be a faster fire/reload rate. This would balance out the weapon perfectly, plus you now have a B-Side Air Strike.

On my personal use, its feel strong againts light clases but vs medium or big can be tricky, since you can rocket jump a little bit more if you are not a gunboats user and hitting direct hits constantly can sometimes ramp up the lack of damage

I've heard the Liberty Launcher called "a grab bag of minor benefits", but I think it's fine to have some weapons that are slight alternatives to stock. The Enforcer, the Loch'n'Load, and the Huo-Long Heater are also really fun and their upsides can come in clutch when they happen.

Hmm, I can think of a few reasons to use the liberty launcher: 1. Hybrid trolldier. You still have a primary that will deal damage (albeit less), so you can finish people off when you miss your garden, or against a full health soldier. Especially good for if you don’t wanna use the gunboats. 2. Supporting fire. Your allies will do the brunt of the work, but get a few potshots in there, and soften up that enemy team to make your teammate’s jobs a bit easier. The less damage from blast jumps makes you a bit more mobile, and more rockets means you can soften up more foes for your allies to take out. Sure, you won’t be getting the kills, but you can get some decent assists!

I feel like what they're going with is using the full set, with the market gardener and reserve shooter, to be able to rocket jump in for a market garden, be able to pop an enemy up in the air to combo with the reserve shooter, and general mobility. Although I feel like its lacking even there.

The idea I had to rework the Liberty Launcher would to make it all about completely ignoring or possibly dealing extra damage to enemies with resistances. So against normal enemies, it'd be weaker than the other rocket launchers, but in exchange it would be stronger against targets with any kind of damage resistance - i.e. from the Battalion's Backup, the Vaccinator, Wrangled Sentries, etc (not the Default Uber, of course). That way, it could be a viable choice for a Soldier struggling to destroy a problematic Sentry being Wrangled by it's Engineer, for example.

How I would balance it personally: 5 rockets -15% damage penalty +40% projectile speed -10% self damage on a rocket jump +20-25% faster shooting speed Just a reliable rocket launcher that has a total of less 25% self damage compared to stock and dishes out damage faster and is more reliable to do a rocket jump with since 1 of the rockets is for free and you can fire faster on the air, being basically a better air strike as the bonus also works on the ground

I've noticed while using this that there's a few personal highs that come from it, namely being that the clip size is a crutch for players that don't like to reload as frequently, and that at the very least it helps pepper your enemies with its faster projectile speed and bigger clip size. While it was designed to make you more mobile, the Liberty Launcher's damage reduction makes it more viable if you stick with your teammates the whole way instead of pushing ahead into the enemy base.

I think a rework is in order: New stats +40% projectile speed -15% damage penalty on grounded enemies. Same knockback power as stock. Mini crits airborn targets like direct hit. Killing an airborne target refills clip and causes target to gib. This rework turns the weapon into a combo weapon that rewards hitting the combo with boosted damage ,plus reloading your clip and causes enemies to explode like fireworks on an airshot kill.

I think what would make me enjoy the Liberty Launcher the most would be to actually lean IN to the massive downside, keeping the -25% damage penalty, but adding in new bonuses on top of what exists, something like +10% Firing Speed and +15% Reload Speed I think would be super cool to see, as weirdly enough, we don’t have a single rocket launcher with either of those stats (unless you’re counting the air strike mid rocket jump)
