The fact that you mentioned the idea of hiring the people making these fan community projects really made me realize how ridiculous this all is. Valve is a company that has so much of it's catalogue built upon fan made creations such as TEAM FORTRESS!!! Logically, Valve's handling of the situation (or lack thereof) defies any real logic, I'm suspecting that there is some ulterior motive at play that we don't know about.

There was no ulterior motive, legally the team didn't have the rights to the tf2 assets at the time. So, the project didn't have any actual blessing by valve. As, stupid as it sounds in their eyes it was theft. From a legal standpoint it's like how gmod has built itself around backporting other content for the most part into the source engine. Them backporting tf2 into source 2 was seen as infringement on their property.
@LesbianWeedBrownie10 ай бұрын
Sorry, but not only was Valve completely justified legally, but also morally. Valve gave modders an inch, devs took it a mile by porting an entire game with assets they don't own into another engine. At that point it becomes a separate game and threatens valve directly by taking away player base / more importantly money. Garry's Mod is a mod, this is not a mod, this is a port.

Cue greedy Senior Devs review bombing anyone working on old projects, essentially forcefully firing them. Any updates we do get are from the passionate people in their free time. On the DMCA/takedowns, I will have to side with Valve. There is a vast difference in how Garry's mod operated and how S&box is operating. Garry's mod was a (mostly ) half life mod that was later developed into its own standalone thing. Valve approached Garry Newman and they reached an agreement to have Valve as the publisher. Garry's mod require you to have a game running on the Source engine in order to work. S&Box is intended to be its own thing, a kind of spiritual successor to Garry's mod running on Source 2. TF2S2 was built in and for S&Box, BUT without the agreement or license to use TF2 models, sounds and especially not to make a 1:1 recreation of it. And about the Portal 64 game: if I'm not mistaken, t's not a DMCA; Valve approached the dev saying "hey, you are using official and unlicensed Nintento libraries, maybe don't do that, Nintendo will come after you", it ACTUALLY is Valve coming to the fanbase to protect them. No idea on what happened with the youtube takedowns tho. I do agree however that TF2 have been left to rot for years now. No one is at the bar, except for some occasional maintenance and bug fixes (I said occasional). Valve have the ressources and the means to work on this game. We don't need a TF3 or a TF2 on Source 2, what we need is updates, maybe some new maps, maybe some new weapons, balancing, but ESPECIALLY getting rid of these damn bots. Will we get this update? Probably not.

I had to deal with 3 YEARS of not chatting or even communicating with other players, so when a player told me to do something I can't or is yelling at me, I can't even talk back so I seem like a guy who only thinks about himself. This is fucked (Yes I have bought items so now I can chat but I'm still mad)

Valve has all the resources to make tf2 better, and yet the most they give us is a part time employee and community cases every smissmiss I say restart #savetf2 but don't end it until they actually give us something notable. Put Valve in the spotlight again and show the rest of the internet how they treat their game communities. During the next holiday update we could all just upload nothing but bug patches and anti bot features to force through an update and get valve to actually have some responsibility over their own creations. Last time we did #savetf2, valve gave us nothing but a tweet and screwed f2p's over. Now they have made this beautifully constructed game into a pay-to-win, bot infested joke left for dead by its creators This is not the valve that made tf2, portal and half life. This is some billion dollar gaming company that refuses to take responsibility for their own creation and leaves a hundred thousand player strong community to die because they are more concerned with shooting down fan creations than fixing the game that helped their rise to power in the first place.

If I remember correctly the tf2 servers had some kind of a maintenance in general that's why the item servers didn't work, as for why they didn't notify anyone I think they are trying to solve something that should not be announced publicly. Hopefully the bot problem and other safety stuff. As for the Portal 64 situation, valve didn't took it down. They just recommended the porters to take it down cause they used a Nintendo source code instead of one of the free open source ones. And Nintendo is all about copyright take downs and would've took it down. When it comes to the tf2-source 2 fan project, it makes sense why they would took it down. 1. TF2 still makes money, and they want to keep it that way. 2. They might port the game to source 2 if they think it's not possible to solve the problems with the game (for a game this old it has pretty small amount of problems, the problem is that they are all major problems) or just port it in general in the future. 3. Valve is usually lenient and chill when it comes to projects made from source so if they didn't want someone to make a source 2 port of tf2 they must have a pretty good reason. And the devs probably didn't notify or ask a valve staff if they could do it, cause they probably would've said no but that I don't know for sure.

To be frank I can't help but laugh at the TF2 community at this point. See, I remember how much this community would kiss Valve's ass and would ignore Valves early signs of neglect and outright mocked the players who were calling this shit out years before now. I even remember the TF2 community making fun of the CS:GO community when it was demanding Valve make adjustments to polish their game; "you should just be grateful Valve updates the game" TF2'ers would say. Well guess what? The CSGO players got all the changes they asked for. Even got a full Source 2 port. What do we have? A shitty matchmaking system, a barren server browser, and full spectrum dominance by bot overlords like never seen before. Maybe if the TF2 community had been busier complaining for fixes instead of praising Valve when they didn't deserve it you might have had a functioning game today. Now that you've set the precedent that you can be walked on you may never see this game get repaired. Too bad.

An old, now defunct channel called Gaming Wildlife called this over ten years ago: *Valve doesn't want to make games anymore.* Making their own games doesn't make them nearly as much profit as selling other people's games and talking a 33% cut, so now they don't want to do anything unless they see Steam-level dollar signs or they can use it to spin themselves as god-tier inivators and industry leaders, their not going to do it. That's why after almost ten years without releasing a new game, they crapped out the franchise-destroying Half Life: Alyx, to try and make a $1,000 dollar gimmicky peripheral an industry standard. That'd the real reason Half Life 3 will never be made; there is NOTHING Valve can do to make HL3 be seen as "revolutionary" as HL2 (falsely) is, nor as big a money printing factory as skinning The Orange Box into Steam was. Plus there's the dirty truth that no one likes to talk about; some of the worst things that have turned the customer-publisher relationship into a parasitic one were started by Valve. Games as a live service, the death of physical media and property rights in gaming, LOOT CRATES: Valve is responsible for creating all of them. TF2 has most of the most notoriously broken code in existence, perhaps to the point where tinkering with it any further will cause the entire game to collapse, and they're most scattered about how bad that will make them look. But the more likely answer is they just don't care. They see fixing the problem as costing more money than it's worth, so they're not going to do it. Valve aren't just filthy rich, there miserly. The only thing they really care about is Steam. They could shut down the TF2 servers tomorrow, and they wouldn't care, because what are you going to do; stop using Steam entirely in protest? That's the only thing that would make Valve move to take definitive action; if the monsters responsible for the TF2 bot crisis launched such an attack on Steam... _hint hint..._

But now that I think about it and i’ve done some research that’s just a load of horseshit. I guarantee you there are people out there who will fix the entirety of this game, for free, no questions asked. Also they make way more money then they could possibly need to upkeep what they have in place. They could fix the game, no problems with money, no problem with anything else, but they just don’t. Also, finally someone says the very same argument I did: "Hire someone to track down the bot devs and take them down", "They earn BILLIONS" and "This game still produces money from cases and keys being updated every several months"... FINALLY someone agrees! Also... isn't the botting issue the equivalent of causing DoS/DDoS attacks towards TF2? Which is, you know... *ILLEGAL*? Valve should've done something to fix the DDoS, but instead they did a horrible Nintendo impression combined with their typical Valve's Signature apathy towards TF2 and a couple of passion projects. Finally, some normal dude actually telling people about how bad the Valve has became. People hope for any major updates about 7 years now, they have HOPE at least. But hope does nothing in solving issues. If Valve shuts off TF2, we could very possibly sue them, because Items that we've bought, time we've spent would not be a thing anymore. And lawyers won't help them, because Valve didn't stop the transactions gounf, didn't stop adding Community-made Content and they did not say, that "We're no longer updating TF2". So they have a responsibility to get things done, just as they did recently with Half Life 1. We have like the BIGGEST Community out of all Valve's games if not including Half Life 2. On my opinion, we should make another TF2 Protest, but not as peaceful one, as before. We won't hurt anybody(i think), but we would tell the world, how shitty the Valve company is actually. We need something or someone to lead whole Community and say it. We need more popularity among the people, i think Social Media would be enough for Valve to notice. And if bots are such issue that cannot be solved right now, why devs cannot just GIVE US something to deal with them? A Balance Updae would be enough to make Sniper not much of an issue but at the same time, not pissing off all Sniper mains at once. With that said, here's a site of a Rebalance Server made by TF2 KZbinr _"Fish-Stick-On-A-Stick"_ if you want to see the ideas about that update: 74.91.126.159/ But overall, we need a Revolution. We've been patient for too long, the time to raise has come, we need to make not only Valve notice us. Maybe I'm being to bumb and dramatic here, but i love this game, it's my childhood, i don't want it to fall apart by some incompetent mf who thinks he can keep milking an abandoned project for money, not like that...
