Better yet, just give it 6 shots. It doesn't need the clip size penalty. Also, it's not that there's "hitbox spaghetti", the Back Scatter simply can't mini-crit past a certain range (500 Hammer Units), and presumably uses the same radius as the Backburner (90°) for determining whether it will mini-crit. I feel that the -20% accuracy penalty is enough to counter-balance the ability to deal mini-crits while behind enemies.

@@thatguybrody4819 If that's not due to the limited radius that rewards mini-crits, then I'm not sure what it is that's causing you trouble. Hitscan weapons are lag-compensated, so as long as your target is relatively close to the game server, I'm not sure what could be the problem. Maybe some other networking issue on your end, such as packet loss? I'm don't know, I'm not a lerp expert. If someone else knows of some other quirk of hitscan hitreg that could be the culprit, please let me know, I'm very curious :)

IMO, if the Backscatter had a Airstrike like "on kill: plus 1 ammo in the ag for a max of 4 more shots" for 8 shots total would make use of the Drum like Mag and give you a reason to use both normal and Flanker sort of playstyle.

Should've used the Fan 'o War. That thing marks someone for death, making the whole point of the other two items completely useless. And even if the Sandman takes away from your health, you can at the very least still use it like the Stock Bat as a last resort Melee, something you really can't do with the Fan 'o War, so if you run out of Back Scatter bullets, you have to reaload because you're out of options. I mean, it's not as terrible of a weapon as everybody says it is, but its just overshadowed by the other better items that I've only seen people use it a few times. And when you factor in that 6 meatshots from stock is more overall damage than 4 mini-crit boosted shots from the backscatter, it makes you wonder why you would even use this, because the scattergun will still kill every class in the same amount of hits, unless you're behind a light class. In short, the backscatter was a cool idea, but it just makes me sad.

@@Thebooooy the whole reason why it's so bad can be summed up in one sentence someone said in a video reviewing it when it first came out (you can find the name for it on FishStickOnAStick's bad weapon academy video on it). After he killed a Pyro by getting behind him he said, "I probably would have been able to get that kill anyway if I was using the stock scattergun." Unless there are four light classes right next to each other, all with their backs turned to you and too stupid to turn around, you are better off with stock. In literally any other scenario the backscatter, even at it's best, can only equal stock, and in most it is worse. Stock has 2 more shots, has more range due to it's tighter spread, and puts out similar damage to all angles instead of exclusively to it's back.

Bonk is the worst secondary for Scout, but its not the worst in this loadout. The Bonk is used for flanks, blocking, memes, surviving and sentry assist busting. See how you can flank easier with bonk, and the back scatter encourages flanks? Synergy isn't the best but its better than this loadout.

The problem with the backscatter isn't that it's bad. It's a completely serviceable weapon that has really good damage output if you flank and attack from behind. The only reason it's "bad" is because scouts stock is just badly designed and better than pretty much all of his primary's. Iike all of scouts primarys fulfill their niche just fine, but stock just does them all as well due to it's stupidly fast damage output and valves fear of giving any other scout weapon a full clip size

No, Scattergun is not badly designed it is the basis of every scattergun, the Stock, the Original, the true balanced. The reason why you might think Scattergun is OP(which isn't) is that it deals more consistent damage, because it is simply "balanced", like other sidegrades that deal even higher DPS which has a cost for Consistent stream of damage such as Soda Popper. And the reason why the others sucks because they aren't balanced due to bad design. Backscatter is bad, not just because it's statistically bad. It's because it forces you into a playstyle where you can absolutely do even better with any other Scatterguns. The downsides of the Backscatter counter-acts each other making it a bad weapon, the -20% forces you to be up close, but with the -2 clip size, you'll become weaker in 1v1 fights, add them both, you'll have a disadvantage in dealing consistent damage. You're just pretty much screwed if you use this weapon in most situations The upside is so niche, and the downsides counteract with everything you should be doing as a scout

Yeah but after you flank, what can you kill that the stock wouldn't have? Soldier? Both weapons two shot. Demo? Both weapons two shot! Medic? Both weapons two shot! The only difference your getting with the back scatt and the stock is vs light classes, and even then can you really get behind a perfect aim sentry to kill an engie? A Sniper? Can the Sniper even react fast enough for the stock too? They will unscope and try to kill you, yes but two meatshots is faster and easier than you think, most of the time they just stay scoped! Spy? All of them use the Kunai anyway, and even the ones who use stock you two shot faster than they cloak or turn around, the dead ringer then the back scatter will have no difference. Scout? Y'know how 500 hammer units isn't that much? By the time you click the Scout will be out of your range and survive the shot! Yes, the back scatter is good, but the stock is 1% better in every single scenario.

You could also just use stock, which does comparable damage at the same distance the Back Scatter requires for its mini-crits, but at any angle instead of just from behind. It's also more effective at mid range, and has two more shells to work with if something goes wrong. If you're really desperate for mini-crits, you can just use the Crit-a-Cola for guaranteed mini-crits, again at any angle. The Back Scatter's upside is just too situational and minor to make up for its downsides, and it doesn't fill a niche that can't be done better by Scout's other options.

The Back Scatter is the worst primary for Scout. You can have a good loadout with the Baby Faces to get boost fast and the shortstop is pretty good for mid and far range, Force A Nature, Stock and the Soda Popper are all great. FaN and SP for the more jumps and the faster firing speed to essentially do 200 damage faster than the back scatter can do 141 damage, and stock is just the back scatter but better, your not saving up ammo if you wanna one shot Snipers as the back scatter will be at 3 and stock will be at 4, and can a sniper really pull out the jarate bushwacka faster than two meatshots? No. The bullet spread isn't that bad but you can occasionally realize that the stock could've saved your life more often than the back scatter. Its just the straight downgrade, its like comparing the third degree to the fire axe, sure it is better, but yes its not by that much.

Switch out the first two for the Baby Faces Blaster and the Bonk. Then the third one, get the Boston basher or if not then keep the sandman. Medics are extinct in pubs so that’s one thing. Baby faces puts you below the 100 hp gap for weapon damage if you have the sandman, plus your too slow to dodge, so you’ll get one shot by basically everything. Bonk gives you invincibility but you become SLOWER afterwards AND you can’t attack, and the Boston basher? It’s the Boston basher.

The Boston Basher is only bad for unskilled Scouts, this guys a really good scout main so I think its fine for him to keep the Sandman. The Back Scatter is the stock vs the third degree thing, yes its worse but only barely. The Back Scatter is definitely usable. The Baby Faces is also usable though, but without the Wrap Assassin or the Guillotine its pretty shitty, plus the Bonk isn't even a damage dealing item, but I still think the Sandman should be used, as the Boston Basher does a good chunk of damage, allowing pretty decent amounts of boost, where as the Sandman only keeps its low scout melee damage.

The secondary is good to incase you can’t flank and the sand man is to flank behind them worst load out in my opinion with my play style would be force a nature bonk atomic punch and idk any melee option tbh every melee I scouts loud out works perfectly with my play style even sandman so ye my opinion remember also the back scatter isn’t the worst one in dust bowl that would be soda popper because there’s not that many places only the cart and everything else is underground. TLDR: my worst load out would be force nature bonk and any melee. Also worst gun for dustbowl is soda popper.
