TFA #52 | Big Rainbow Trout on Lure and Fly | Mersey River | Tasmania

Join Rory on the last day of the Rainbow trout season as he revisits the upper Mersey River in search for some big trout on fly or lure. Both techniques come into use and some nice late-season brown and rainbow trout find their way to the net.

Beautiful rainbow mate! If only you knew what was lurking in that water 🙂 best rainbow I ever caught was just over 4lb above Rowallen but not on fly unfortunately. Not surprised you hooked into bigger, I've seen browns in double figures In that water and best brown for me was 8/5 lb on lure. Anyway, enough of my 'bragging' lol....great video and without a doubt a beautiful location.....hopefully you can venture further up stream next season and give the fly rod a good workout in warmer weather. Thanks Geoff, sounds like there are a few nice fish in that stretch. It's definitely on the cards for this coming season again. I've never caught a trout close to 8lb, you'll be sure to see it in a video if I do!

Yeah mate same area but just a few kilometres downstream. Access it via the track to Lee's paddocks though
