For me , very sad. I have visited most of these stadiums and with the possible exception of Gay Meadow, they have been replaced with some of the least inspiring houses in the country, or identikit shopping centres. Highbury should have been a grade one listed building, and retained as a training ground for the English national team.
@EdekLay2 жыл бұрын
Not that I ever went to Highbury but you could tell even from the TV what an atmosphere it had. It's a shame that the business of football got bigger than the game, what can you do?

Boy, was this depressing, especially the derelict wastelands left behind in Leicester and Stoke. As a fan in the 80s I visited so many of these grounds: Filbert Street, Highfield Road, Victoria Ground, Highbury, Upton Park, Roker Park, Maine Road, Ayresome Park, White Hart Lane, Gigg Lane, Sealand Road... ok, a lot of them were decrepit, but they all had their own quirky characteristics.
@danprice44592 жыл бұрын
Victoria Ground (Stoke) now has plenty of new houses there with more being built around it too. Nothing like what you see in this video which could count for Leicester too.

Coventrys ground look good why did they need to move?
@ParumPirum2 жыл бұрын
However, it lacked facilities compared to the new stadia of similar-sized clubs, which was one of the main causes of the move to the Ricoh Arena. Another reason for relocation was that parking facilities in the local area were inadequate. (From Wikipedia)
@alastairnicolson49926 ай бұрын
That question was one asked by Cov supporters for many a year! Especially once we found ourselves playing "at home" in Northampton and Birmingham! The ground was sold in a "master plan" chairman at the time Bryan Richardson had to make Cov one of the top ten teams in the Premiership. Big Ron came in. Massive overspending. Then relegation. Then another relegation and bankruptcy. Thank God for Mark Robins! PUSB!

Seeing all of them becoming either a residential area or a shopping complex tells you how expensive the land had become at that time for developers to make substantial offers that club couldn't refuse. Or that the cost of tearing down old stadiums to build new one on top of them was too high.

Was Swansea City (Vetch Field) missing on the (admittedly correct) grounds that we're in Wales? And another ground east of here we shan't mention? We have some Housing Association flats but also Community Allotments and a playground. Quite nice, but mainly because land values here fell sharply when the ground was waiting for demolition. At least you can still walk across it!

Modern bland housing developments in with no imagination - just identikit. More thought could have gone into not just building better quality homes, but making the space abit more appealing. More trees, more greenery....abit more gone into landscaping. But hey, this is the UK and everything now is about cost cutting (cutting corners), building bog standard houses that aren't that well designed and built to the minimum industry specifications - both in terms of size of rooms, and quality.
