Don’t think I’ve ever thought this about a flight review before, but this one was truly heartwarming. It’s 6am and I’m smiling (unheard of at this ungodly hour!) imagining a young lad drilling down into data, and parsing every last variable to arrive at the most suitable flight for his father. So glad the experience survived the passage of time and lived up to expectation.

Kevin, you are a kindred soul. I, too would want to arrive five and a half hours early to enjoy the lounge and meal. My Mother did the QEII to London and Concord back to the US back in the day, and it sparked my love for travel even though I was a wee thing who didn’t go on the trip. Thanks for all that you do, you are the only channel I watch that does flight and hotel reviews now, you are heads and shoulders above the rest.

I enjoyed your story regarding being a young “travel agent”. Around the age of 12 years, I began collecting expired OAG’s from local travel agencies & would spend hours pouring over them. At the age of 13 years, I created my own U.S. domestic airline. I created a handwritten timetable, taking into consideration turnaround times, intermediate stops, aircraft type, flying time (arrival & departure times quoted in local time, of course), meal service, etc. I named it Republic Airlines…long before the merger of North Central, Southern & Hughes Airwest created the real Republic. Footnote, I became a travel agent in 1984 & remained in the industry until 2008. Thanks for sharing your story.

I think First on any airline is about the experience so much more so than just the chair you're sitting in on board. As long as you get a solid crew, I do think BA offers a good product- especially since they're consistently the lowest priced globally.

One of the most enjoyable videos I’ve seen here. Love the history and reminds me of so much. I managed to fly Concorde three times (2 on BA and one on AF) and with my cleverness probably spent less on all three than the price you said… with a number of other First Class flights involved on various airlines as part of the same tickets. Have been enjoying BA First for around 20-25 years now. About only one flight I was not pleased by. Usually the attention in a nice small cabin is really what sets it apart from Second Class (what I call Business LOL)
@tfft12 күн бұрын
Lucky! Personally I would have preferred to try AF!
@geoffreyschultz851512 күн бұрын
@ AF La Premiere is still around the top of my list to try… Concorde with AF was underwhelming compared to BA. Although it was my fastest time across the Atlantic (around 2h50 but eastbound) This was near the end and BA was still proud of her, but AF was ready to give her up. Have been with Emirates in First a number of times. Glitz without charm is what I would say. JAL First I genuinely enjoyed. LH First is one of my favorites for its understated comfort. A bit similar to the newer BA First, but with better ground service (FCT, drive to plane, etc.) Several other airlines in F I have enjoyed over the years, but BA has been my most frequent.

I appreciate this video, thanks. For the record I believe some of the Mid-East flights BA has put on hiatus are because Rolls-Royce can't supply enough Trent engines for their 787s AND the engines are requiring serious maintenance early. It's not a commercial decision, they have to do it. OK, Concorde Room: I too love it; my favorite First Class lounge equal with the Pier in HKG. Sadly, it has become fashionable among creators on YT to sneer at this lounge. It doesn't deserve it. OK, closing off BA First seats. I have flown them on 747s, A380s and 777s. I have always found them comfortable but honestly there are way better and I'd include the AA Flagship First seat in that list. Just more room and mobility. I think it falls short. Thx again.
@tfft12 күн бұрын
I think the point of the petitions is that they need to reduce capacity but cutting the route entirely isn’t necessary. Whether BA agrees or not is another story.

Loved this video and it reminded me of when I got to fly BA First for the first time (LHR>JFK on their 747). I got carried away in the Concorde room and almost missed the flight! Since then I have to say my First experience on BA has been so inconsistent. My last flight from DXB was so average, the cabin was their oldest First config (and business had the Club Suites) and the crew were quite disengaged. I do still love the whole experience though.
@nkhan412 күн бұрын
lovely back story, nice to see the origins of the "aviation geek" arc. That bedding looked so good, but I think your ratings may have been biased. Flying first, let alone business, not having your choice of meal when the load factor is so low would be serious negative points for me. You mostly know what hard product you're going to get, but the service is what remains unseen till you take the flight. If I had paid for this flight (which I would have to as I don't have an option because Air Canada), I would not be pleased. Great review as always.

Wow, someone with a positive experience with BA. You don't find that often on social media these days. I am shocked they didn't stock enough food for both first class passengers to get their first choice. I believe this has happened on other airlines as well when the first class cabin is almost empty.

For me if I had the chance, I've thought I'd try their first on their flight to SCL. Which is on their 787-9. Other first class options I've considered are SQ on the 777 & LH on their 747-8. Maybe even AF on the 77W. The chance of any of those actually happening are extremely small.

AF and SQ on the 777 I'm interested in, LH in First I have no interest. I honestly can't get over the plop of caviar served with plain white toast. The bathrooms in the First Lounge are truly something you need to be prepared for. It is so shocking to me... like... how and why would they? I like the Cathay First Lounge better anyway, so yeah. I am not a fan of the First on BA as well. The cabin feels narrow and not too different from Bizz. I received mediocre food and service before as well. But i have to say, your experience looked very enjoyable and i will give it another try. Thank you, this is the first proper review of BA’s first class I’ve seen. Very interesting, I can imagine why they call it the best business class. Wonder how you would compare it to Air France La Premiere…Your story of the nineties brought me right back to my time working for KLM. BA and KLM came very close to a very tight alliance even a merger, groundbreaking then. KLM backed out afraid of being completed dominated and overshadowed by BA. Look at where they are now…completely eclipsed by AF 😩😖 Culturally it would have been a much better match with BA as many big companies historically have shown (Shell, Unilever). Alas…💭🙏🏼
@tfft12 күн бұрын
I'll be honest, these days I think AF and KLM are a pretty decent team (no Skyteam pun intended...). Arguably much better than BA and IB (don't even get me started on EI lol) where IB is even outshining its owner. I have my AF video coming out in March I believe and the KL video in May, with those videos, I'll make what I'm trying to say clear, but regardless of what any of these airlines used to be, I genuinely do love AF-KLM together now.

I was hesitant to fly BA first due to the outrageous taxes and fees. In addition, 42500 avios is such a bargain as it costs 68k avios for east coast US flights in first + above $600 for a one way ticket and 80k in business which is insanely expensive for 6-8 hours flight + $180 to $250 in taxes and fees. Your report convinced me to try it at least one. Hopefully next year in their brand new cabin

Many thanks and well done on yet another interesting, informative and entertaining review Kevin 👍. Also very useful ahead of my first trip in First this weekend for several years. I'll certainly bear your views in mind. From previous experiences. I find BA's F&B below par when compared to competitors' and, as mentioned on other reviews, I'm really not a fan of BA's semi-casual service, much preferring the Far East correct and more formal, but still friendly, style. I will however keep an open mind and hope I'm pleasantly surprised and impressed. The new cabin could be a game changer for the airline and reinforce their standing as the best transatlantic option - I certainly see an opportunity there considering the (very) average offering of AA, which is probably the best of a bad bunch of Business and Business+ offerings. PS great to see your subscriber numbers increasing - very much deserved!

I used to be BA crew and worked in First. What's disappointing is that Elemis used to be In the Club World amenity kit. It's this cost cutting that takes away from the truly premium experience
@tfft12 күн бұрын
My take on Amenities (as in the branded products) is that it should either be truly outstanding like EK with Bulgari and Byredo, Qatar with Diptyque, etc… or, just don’t bother. I always save the kits themselves bc I collect them but 90% of the products inside end up in the trash. A high quality pouch with a dental kit, ear plugs, an eye mask, and a pen along with high quality bulk containers in the bathrooms are fine with me if there’s no investment to be made.

First off, I can really relate to your story about your parents - and how that sparked your interest in travel. It's great, that you were able to fly on this special flight for you- and I am very happy you enjoyed it. However, having said all this, I wish there would have been a bit more of a "wow" feature. Granted, everything looks nice and in good shape. And of course, we could not see the crew's interaction ( albeit I have had wonderful BA crew). But what I kept thinking: this is supposed to be First Class - the absolute best an airline has to offer. To me, it looked like a nice product - but seat looks quite narrow and there were really no obvious comfort or other special features that make it First Class. The food looks nice though. For me personally, the amenities offered would not justify the fare difference compared to a good Business Class. I hope I don't sound too harsh - and I really don't want to take anything away from this special trip for you!

I think that only loading one breakfast option for each passenger in first class is very poor form. I’ve seen other reviews of BA First that have had similar issues. Glad you enjoyed the flight nonetheless!

The BA experience is very hit and miss. The crew standards vary as wildly as their hard product. You did well with both here, but where the prices are consistently higher than Gulf carriers, I no longer gamble on them.

It was a nice flight. Usually, BA gets a bum wrap, but you portray it in a positive light. Kuwait? I've flown into Terminal 1 there and have to agree with online reviews that it just could be one of the worst terminals in the world. I wonder what you thought about it.

My mouth was watering over that dinner. Big favor to ask and I assume you are US based. We have a newly created restaurant review app outta-ten ( I know you like the 10 rating ) . We have had to add restaurants manually and when I say we it’s 2 of us, my engineer partner and myself, the 30,000 foot guy. If you could download and sign in please. Full service higher end restaurants only. Sorry if this too spammy ( more food😮)

I’ll be perfectly honest, as a former restaurant owner, restaurant review apps (without heavy moderation, customer vetting, and business agreements) are something that I… loathe lol

The reason we created this app is that we also hate the review apps out there 🍽️
