Two suggestions for Tommy. (1) Oil your chain. (2) Practice riding with your toes not your heels on the pegs. That foot pointed down riding style can lead to broken parts in your foot.

That modded Monkey was a pretty good deal with all that stuff! I had a 2019 and sold it earlier this year for $3900 and it had reworked suspension (nothing high end like Ohlins), exhaust, flashed ECU, and some cosmetic upgrades. It was around $1700 in upgrades. I'd say Alex bought that one right. I do miss mine sometimes, but there will always be more different bikes in the future. That was my 4th 12" wheel street bike (Grom, Z125 Pro, and Kymco Spade), so I think I've moved on from that phase of my life. Almost bought a used Trail 125 shortly after I sold my Monkey and I am still kicking myself for not picking that up.

Many years ago, I bought a second-hand 1976 XL175. It was modded, mostly cosmetic. As the modded parts wore out - muffler, sprockets etc - I replaced them with OEM parts. I rode that bike for around five years and sold it for more than I paid. The lesson here, is that an unmodded vehicle, well kept, will fetch the highest price in the second-hand market.

I live in Thailand with an unlimited amount of upgrades for the small motorcycle selections available today. I personally own a Honda CT125 that I have modded to suit my riding areas here in Chiang Mai. I also have a KZbin Chanel that I highlight the mods I've done with my bike. I've had countless people on my Chanel say: Leave it stock or go buy a larger bike, etc. etc. Now, I did all of this to my bike because it is what I wanted to ride the area I ride in. I really wish people would just except that people are different and to each his or her own on what they want to modify. I love my CT, it fits me perfect now. If I had a stock one, I'd still start modifying it..... Looks good, keep it up.....

I am buying a Monkey this week. I’ve been reading many of the channels dedicated to the Honda Monkey. I’m 60 yrs old. I though about doing some performance mods i.e., yoshimura exhaust, chimera air intake … But then I saw that you have to reprogram the computer or chips on the monkey to adjust for the modifications. Then one KZbinr said the reprogramming wasn’t working and he had to go back to the original exhaust and air intake. Question: should I leave it alone? Just as the manufacturer intended ? JC
@joecamel6835
@joecamel6835 2 жыл бұрын
You don't have to reprogram it unless you do all the mods , just do the exhaust the CAT deletion will give all the power the air intake is dumb in my opinion .Let it idle 10 minutes after exhaust system install and it will adjust itself .

I'm almost your age. I say leave the powertrain alone. The Honda engineers with their slide rules have perfected power, fuel economy, and reliability. Mess with any of those three variables and the other two suffer. If you want to go faster, buy a faster bike. If you do buy go-fast parts, keep the stock ones. You'll probably want them later, the next buyer surely will.

The only modification that will increase rider pleasure: The cam change, and exhaust, air filter, probably add a few HP. Might improve power off road up a steep grade. Worthwhile? We don't know the specific $$$. The sprocket change probably adds top speed. Not good when off road. The temperature monitor is a wise addition. The small wind deflector probably helps at higher speeds, especially if you tuck down. Decades ago, I knew a man from San Clemente, built up a Honda XR75, with cam and exhaust modification.Kept up quite well with our larger dual sports. He also built a Honda XL250 with similar, and it was a monster! I have no idea the costs. They were cool!

Took me awhile to respond but great video, I have two blue 2021 monkeys and together they don't have 1000 miles on them. I have done just like most people do and start changing stuff, making it my own. I'm thinking that there are as many parts for the monkeys as there are parts for my Harleys. Ain't lying here! This is really great because we can keep these bikes alive and on the road indefinitely. Modify at will but it can get extremely expensive, if you modify it do yourself a favor and KEEP the stock parts UNMODIFIED. I looked online for a complete factory exhaust system for my monkey and couldn't find it brand new and complete, from the factory, I could piece it together, from the factory, for over 600 bucks...complete with all bolts and clamps and heat shields...but 20 years from now that's what people are looking for if it sells. I'm really hoping that was a gold chain and not dirt but it doesn't look like it. Again great stuff and would love to see more 👍

Oh what fun! Love all the comments so far. New year will answer a lot of questions about mods on mini motos. Or any other motorcycle for that matter. The best mods you can make on anything is the operator! Tommy, this was what I was talking about when I met you. You can spend a third or less of that mod money on Alex’s monkey, learning how to ride it! Some of the best rider schools in the world are here in the states. Mystery school (Rich Oliver), American supercamp (Danny Walker). For KZbin school, Moto Jitsu has some of the best practice skills for riders. These are just a few. To all the new riders out there, mods don’t make you fast, skills will make you fast with the benefit of living a long time to ride! I agree with a viewer down below, no suspension mods?? That is always the first place to start. Remember, the fastest rider on a slower bike will always out ride a slower rider on the fastest bike. Another ace video guys!!

I like the idea of your videos but it got kind of annoying how much y'all guys were ripping on mods. I'm a performance guy. It doesn't matter what you have. If you can make it more power and that's what you want to do, go with it. In my opinion I don't want to be going 50 mph, get it up to 70 mph and I can get on the freeway.

It's sad that the price with all the mods are more than double the msrp just to win a drag race by 4ft I'm not judging it's just funny 😆😆

The msrp is half the out the door price... these really are $6000 not $4000. But putting any money into a bike that cheap is like throwing it away you'll very likely never get it back unless you get lucky to find another person with your same exact taste

@@geraldburmeister9637 ah Iowa is on the wrong side of the US for me things are expensive here because minimum wage is so high because our state makes alot of money from logging and distribution/shipping and military. I guess there are drawbacks to the area having alot of money. Your $7.25 is equal to our $13.69

I don't understand why people buy a unique little bike like the Monkey and spend a small fortune on making it look like just another naked bike that's been shrunk a bit and so losing it's original charm.

Tommy is a jealous whiner and detracted from the video. If you want to strap a jet engine on a moped and it makes you happy, DO IT! Just try to do it safely, and video it so we can enjoy the carnage.

I love small bikes but people are gawking at you because they're wondering why grown men are riding bikes designed for 8-12 year olds rather than 250s. 250s are way more capable and comfortable and they cost about the same. My Honda CRF230L set me back $4100 new including tax. By the way oil your chain it's getting rusty. Use any motor oil.
