Nathan is definitely a great addition. I've had two TDI's and an old Golf GTi; Volkswagen people are a unique kind! Awesome job on the air-cooled and great video!

I’ve installed a Beetle engine alone with nothing but a jack and some jack stands. You just wiggle the engine underneath, and it’s just 4 bolts, an accelerator cable, and some wires. I never trained as a mechanic, but my buddies and I worked on quite a few Beetles back in the 80s. I’ve owned three Beetles, and a Karmann Ghia. Sure wish I still had that Ghia!

My Beetle doesn't leak oil, it burns it. :P Probably some worn out piston rings or something (just a guess)

Both Nathan's on this channel are excellent. Lots of ppl use brake cleaner and cat litter to help remove oil on the driveway.

Nathan definitely killed it! He knew what he was doing - it showed. BTW - no tarboard in the engine bay?? Do you have ALL the rubber seals in place - I didn't see any where the engine lid meets the body/apron. VERY IMPORTANT.

I never understood how those beetle engines could be so bad. Need to figure out how to put a toyota 4cyl in one
@damilolaakanni
@damilolaakanni 11 ай бұрын
@@phild9813I wonder what Toyota 4 cylinder engine will fit into that tight engine compartment. Usually Subaru 4 cylinders will fit in that space (they're both boxer engines), but I doubt that an inline 4 engine will fit.

Oh boy, this one gave me flashbacks. Swapped the motor out of my '66 with a blown up transaxle into a '67 with a good trans because it was cheaper and easier (in the 90's in AZ) to buy a whole car with a working transaxle than to get a rebuilt trans and swap it.

They did a good job with that engine rebuild. Looks factory stock. Should’ve swapped the rubber transaxle mounts; at least the two rear ones looked a little worse for wear.

Begin a classic bug maybe do the super bug conversion tfl style instead more displacement add a tiny tubro or supercharger to get it up to and beyond the original super bug by about 69%

Many years ago, 1969, while in the Navy, a co-worker had a 62 vw. He drove from Key West to Jax every weekend to be with his family. He went through engines frequently and had several spares on hand in KW. He devised a way to remove the rear section of the car to facilitate engine r&r. We worked in an aircraft metal shop and he installed Dzus fasteners on the car so the rear section could be easily removed by unfastening 8 Dzus fasteners. It got to where the complete R&R could be done in under an hour
