EVs and off-road are like peanut butter and jelly. Instant and linear torque, low center of gravity, silence, multi motors, no clutches and transmission shifting. Crawling on low speeds doesn’t consume a lot of energy. And downhill recuperation returns what you wasted when climbing. Then you can camp in your vehicle in “camp mode” keeping desired temperature like in capsule hotel, without running an engine.
@TheBowerbird8 ай бұрын
Smooth brains try to pretend that you'll run out of battery - but it's not the case! They are wildly efficient offroad because they do not idle and they have regen. ICE vehicles have to bring a bunch of fuel cans with them. None such issue with EVS. Also, I think the longest offroad stretch in the US is 74 miles - and it's not particularly technical. A Rivian did the Rubicon trail recently. EVs can go pretty much anywhere ICE can.

It will both keep up with or beat other, similar trucks on the trail and it will also keep up with or beat sports cars on the road, and beats other stock trucks in tractor pulls. It's also bullet proof (for hand guns), rust proof, sledgehammer proof, will be able to drive itself, will likely get top safety ratings since Tesla always does, is as nimble as an SUV and super easy to drive... CT is a pretty awesome package. It's not so much that it gets 10s in any one category, but it gets 7s, 8s, and 9s in every category which is super impressive. It will beat other stock, extended cab pickups with 6'+ beds off-roading and in tractor pulls, and then go and beat sports cars on the road with your whole family on board, building supplies in the bed, and a trailer hitched behind.

I'm a conflicted Tesla owner and a proud life long Truck guy. It's hard to admit, but I love driving Model Y Tesla for a daily grocery getter and commuting, on the other hand, there is NO way an electric truck will meet my needs for Towing of my big boy toys. I can't imagine having to unhook my trailers every hundred miles at a super charger. I think I would like a wrapped, lifted and accessorized Cybertruck as daily driver, but Damned it is Butt UGLY as stock. I've have seem some really cool lifts, wraps and accessories that actually make it look really BADAZZ. I will continue to have my Diesel HD for towing and electric for daily driving. Great review !

Electric trucks can't do long distance towing well. But they can basically do everything else; much of it better. A very large majority of truck owners never tow or only tow short distances. Some will say range is a problem, that they can't do a 1000 or whatever miles between pumps, but very few bladders can handle that anyway. I never drive more than 3 hours without stopping.

Nice report. I can see people modifying the CT with aftermarket bumpers, real off road wheels and tires ( so you can air down). And different rocker panels for sliders. It’s too bad Tesla didn’t make the wheel wells larger for bigger tires, but guys may be able to mod those also like I had done on my Tundra TRD. I am glad you liked the steering for off road it makes total sense. The steering wheel sizes is awesome. No need for a large wheel with steer by wire. It will be interesting when the rear wheel steering gets improved I.e. more degrees added with the planned update. I was happy to see you not baby the truck like many will do because it is a truck after all. A full size truck isn’t the greatest on steep approach angles but it looked like it did well. I forgot to add that soon I think you will see Baja style spare tire racks above the bed for a spare tire.
