@MrNismopro2 жыл бұрын
8:13 it didn't have the lift and tires when they performed the fuel economy test. However, it's also hard to tell what the drive was like for them. If they were climbing a slight slope or not, as that would affect their overall results. 🤷🏻♂️
@toddfeltman37482 жыл бұрын
Agree. Bigger, heavier tires and wheels, they loaded it up with extra equipment and increased the wind resistance with the bar and lights too. All can decrease fuel economy.

I’m surprised they fixed that drive shaft under the warranty. They would have weaseled out of doing it for most owners, people who don’t have KZbin channels.
@kerrypence42015 жыл бұрын
It also depends on the dealership you go to… I’ve had small issues with some of my Chrysler products and at one point had to go through three dealerships but the third one was wonderful and took care of the problem without any bitching at all. The other two dealerships were ridiculous, And come to find out the problem I was having with the transmission was actually caused by the first dealership and the third dealership went to bat for me when I filed a claim with Chrysler themselves!
@Jman111295 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Livoti for real! I had a terrible time with RAM when I had my 2018 big horn they tried to scam me so much when I had warranty claims. It’s literally the number one reason why I will never drive a RAM ever again. I traded my big horn for a Chevy trail boss and I’ve had zero issues with it and Chevy services.
@mierdevries96435 жыл бұрын
Well to me that drive shaft should never have snapped. It's just a straight shot from the TC to the Diff, neither of which move on an IFS. The CV should have gone first, so that shaft giving out is very suspect to me of bad design or manufacture.
@toddmayta76155 жыл бұрын
Yes...... offroad vehicle abuse is not usually covered. Especially with a lift and oversized tires. They could easily deny, and prove, that the damage was a result of the strain caused by suspension geometry and oversized tires the truck was not designed for .... lol....

You realize that increasing the tire size numerically lowered the overall effective gear ratio, possibly taking the engine out of "the sweet spot" for torque. Why don't you compare the mileage numbers from before and after the tire swap to see if there is any difference? Just a thought.

Love your reviews. You guys are the most honest reviewers I have ever watched/read. As a former Mechanic at a Jeep (and other brand manufacturers) dealer I can tell you with those tires Chrysler would have made you pay for the driveshaft and probably voided your warranty. The only reason they did warranty the driveshaft is that they wouldn’t want to damage their relationship with TFL because of your reputation in reviews.

One of TFLtruck's best videos to date! Great work guys. Although I know the mods were cool and fun, the majority of viewers and the market can't afford a new fairly-loaded Rebel + all those add-ons. I recommend using a less-optioned-out truck in the future as your long term truck and pick one mod that is in your opinions most needed by that truck for great all-around off-road experience, be it a lift, bigger tires, overhead LED lights, and whatever. Power mods are cool but not cost-effective at all... and the Hemi already sounds great on Ram 1500.
@tyrrellroach58725 жыл бұрын
So something many people don’t realize any time you increase tire size on a truck you add to the strain put into the drive train. The broken cv shaft is most likely the result of the 35” tires and the extreme off roaming it was going through at the time. But with that said it probably should be built heavier but by what I understand about 1/2ton trucks today the front axle is a weak link on all of them. So much so they don’t recommend putting snow plows on them. And the plows that they make for them are light duty and light weight.
@wildbill23c5 жыл бұрын
Most, wait I think all 1/2 tons are IFS now, those suspensions are trash when it comes to actually using a truck as a truck, and for what they were doing in the episode where they blew that CV joint in that drive shaft isn't anything close to heavy offroading...that CV joint is trash, they need to put some HD shafts in that thing if they want to pretend its an offroad truck...but then again the automakers figure most people today buying trucks like this turn them into mall crawlers LOL.

The fuel economy numbers are for the truck's family as a whole. Case in point, I have a 2017 Rebel 5.7L 4wd, my best friend has a 2017 Tradesman 5.7L 4wd. The differences between our trucks aside from the option group is, he has the 6.5' bed I have the 5.5' bed, and his tires are highway tires while mine are off road tires. Aside from the tires and bed size our trucks are nearly identical and they are both about the same age. He gets in the high teens for economy on a regular basis, while I get in the mid teens regularly. His truck scales 100# more than mine, and our driving styles are very similar. Tires here are the factor at the end of the day. Prolly whats going on with your truck as well.

Awesome video! Id say the Rebel was exceptional, especially considering it is a first year new model. In comparison my 2018 F150 (not a new model) has had way more issues, but none of the abuse you gave the Rebel. Yep- back in the shop right now actually.

Lucas Harris 4wd hub vacuum issues @3k miles, several electronics issues (usb hubs replaced, trailer harness water intrusion, reverse sensors replaced), and dealer verified just yesterday it has the cold start engine rattle- vct/ timing chain problem. What is most frustrating is that every time it has a problem its 2 weeks to get into dealer, then the parts are always unavailable/backordered, so its another month before anything is fixed. The current engine problem is awaiting the actual tsb from Ford to be released, per dealer there are no parts currently- “check back in January”. That repair according to dealer will likely be replacing the vct units, and if it wasnt in warranty would be approx. $4200. Less than 2 years and 35k miles and i think its been 10 dealer visits for diagnose and repair so far which is unacceptable in my opinion. Also the undercarriage of the truck is rusting terribly, the rear diff looks like its 10 years old- I see this on alot of 2018 and newer trucks when sitting behind them in traffic (can tell year by stamped tailgate). Other various quality issues including tailgate handle sticking, dash hump, warped glove box etc... This is my first ford, I love the 3.5 ecoboost power and mpg, but with these issues it will be my last.

The lift shouldn't have affected it. Independent front suspension. The front diff and trans case dont move. So the drive angles shouldn't have changed. If it was a CV shaft from the diff to the wheel, then yes. But 2" wont change much either.

@@unknowntrucker7010 yea they can if they can prove it contributed to the failure. The 35" tires instead of the stock 33" would be a good reason due to the additional weight/stress.
