Watching those trucks rip over the land one by one was exciting for me...even thrilling and a little sentimental! And I laughed so hard at each one of you. I concur, I have a 90 K1500 (among several) that has been there for me whenever I needed it. It has had a few problems (water pump and radiator) but a generally reliable truck and easy to fix. One of my friends has a 98 Ram like Nathan's. It has had several problems including trans and a ball joint that popped loose going over train tracks.

@@TFLtruck I recently lucked into a rust free 95 F150 Flareside 4x4 for 3200.00. Was in storage for 8 years and still has the original shocks and EXHAUST from the manifolds to tailpipe. Everything else anywhere under 6k looked like it had 3 hobos and waterbuffalo living in it and had been used for a salt spray test.

This is actually really good results. I've had Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks in use under all these conditions. In my experience, Ford was great on the road, Dodge always did much better off road. My Chevy was a good balance between on the road and off road.

Dodge won snow hill climb and Moab. Ford won drag race, MPG, mechanic inspection, and the last hill climb. So it seems the Ford won by score, but the Chevy is much much older than both the other trucks and still hung in there without blowing a transmission which is more than the Dodge can say, lol. So not a Chevy fan, but I'd say the Chevy is the most impressive in this series.

Interesting series, id give it to the chevy knowing it only had a levelling kit and the 305, give it a proper lift with the 350 totally different story. Add in the fact that chevy is made with thicker metal body panels, parts are easy to find and cheap its definitely the best investment of the 3

That Chevy is the most reliable truck between the 3 hands down. I say that because (most) tritons and magnums don’t make it to 300,000 of course some do but more often than not a 5.7 vortec will make it to 300,000 easily. I’ve owned a few late 90s vortecs and they’re fantastic. Not shitting on the Ford or dodge but facts are facts.

the ram is the most off road capable from the factory out of these, that's the off road version so it came standard with a lift from the factory and a LSD. the other trucks they installed the lifts and the ford definitely had an open rear end. couldn't tell about the chevy

The Ford is so slow due to the cam phasers being on the way out...next step is blown motor. The Dodge has a garbage transmisioon just like they all do. Therefore the Chevy is by far the best truck for the money as it doesn't have any known engine or transmission issues.

I don't see people clamoring for the '90s fords or early '00s.OBS Chevy's have been pretty hot and have a timeless look to them. Easier to find as GM sells more trucks afaik. Dodges especially with particular power trains are popular as well old or new despite durability.

This is one of my favorite series and the only thing I suggest is keeping the budgets on the lower end, ~15k and lower when all is said and done. See how well you guys can really stretch the dollars. Plus, that seems reasonable enough for just about everyone to afford.

Question why worry about hurting a truck like that? Isn't the reason for owning a beater, to beat the crap out of it? You might be saying the Ford was the worst off-roader, there must be something subjective I'm not aware of, it seems to be on par with the Ram but has traction issues, the stupid big wheels are probably the cause of that. Swap out the 19" for 17" and the traction issues will go away. I was liking the Ram but well it seems to be proving out the reputation of earlier RAM trucks for not being on par with the Ford or the Chevy. The locking diff makes the difference, I wouldn't have a 4x4. w/o one, never had had one with out one, not sure you can really call a vehicle a 4x4 if it has an open differential.

@@sashadog4142 They can be rebuilt to be pretty solid, but yeah a total weakpoint for that era. The 5.2 and 5.9 were rock solid though and will outlast both the GM and Ford motor no problem. So not a bad idea for a good example, sadly this Ram needed a good amount of work and more for someone that would be able to do the work themselves. The 545RFE in later years were pretty solid transmissions as long as it went through a couple transmission fluid changes in the 200k miles time span. The ZF8 in modern Rams are about as solid as they come.
