I see the advantage of a hawk is the hooking part. And since it's also a consider a tool too it's a very versatile weapon to have.

Tha advantage is the reach, hook, and force. If you’re going to hit someone to kill or disable, the shock of a blow from a sharp blade plus the concentrated mass of an axe head bringing a powerful impact can stun. While swords are romanticized in pop culture, remember that for most of human history, the ability to attack from a distance was an advantage. By putting a blade at the end of a stick or pole, you could create massive force on whatever you bring it down onto. Warhammers, Spears, axes, etc. all had this effect and were used from everyone from the ancient Israelites to the native Americans to the armies of Western or Central Europe. Swords are very regal and popular in tv and film for that reason, but long sticks with axe heads on the end were weapons of war you would reach for first.

Hello and thank you for the demonstration, If I may ask 3 questions: 1. Which backside (pol) is better for fighting? The hammer or the spike? 2. What size hawk is better for fighting (The Eagle Talon, fullsize Shrike, or s13 small shrike?) 3. In your personal experience what do you think would be the best all around all-use hawk a civilian could use in everyday life. (Carry, woods, urban, self defense, natural disaster etc.) Thank you

I really like the eagle talon for all around use. If you’re really concerned with having a good tomahawk for all-around purposes, I recommend a full metal construction rather than the cheaper plastic or wooden handles. The eagle talon from RMJ is basically unbreakable.

@@ThePeaceMaker09 I have the RMJ Eagle Talon. I like the overall size as it is a little bigger than the shrike. I used a shrike trainer in this video because that was what RMJ gave me to play with. LOL

Anyone notice hes moving at 1/4 of 1 mph. Thats .25 MPH. The person trying to kill you is NOT going to stand still so you can slice him 5 times with your hatchet. It will be fast and brutal. More akin to berzerker style in a real attack.

You can move it that fast, but not with much control.... But control does not matter in the fight. Just accuracy and violence of action. I regularly train my Eskrima with iron wood sticks so my grip strength and arm strength is good. Also, my real hawk is an RMJ Talon. It is light and very well balanced. It is one continuous piece of steel with a textured handles riveted on. It is built to be faster than the cheaper steel head and plastic handle hawks most people have.

When you practice with bladed weapons youll which technique you would apply. Ofc he wouldnt grab the blade. This is a demonstration of using a tomahawk vs a blunt weapon. Im sure if the opponent had a blade he would revise the technique

I saw one problem. I do not think you are going to catch this guys stick at full speed. Also the fight you always win is not hard training. I know you are demonstrating how to use the weapon, but it would be better training if you showed how to recover from misses and broken fingers during these demos.

Well you have to realize that he’s not going full speed either, the first exercise should show that. Demonstrating at full speed with contact would hurt the other guy.

@@alexc5243 I get all you are saying. However, in the second drill he is demonstrating catching a rattan stick and then using the tomahawk. The problem is if you train to catch a stick with bare hands in training you will try it when you are not training. So how fast does a guy swing a stick? How much force is generated? And how is a technique that will get your hand broken a good choice? All I am saying is train for reality.

Looks great but in actual combat you’ll never be able to pull half that off. Great technique, lot of good content. Just with real conflict I have come to find out the Tomahawk gets hung up in fabric and material and gear and tactical vest and stuff great tool though save my ass many times.
