LeafGreen was a lot of fun. SoulSilver was AMAZING! Moon was a novel experience with a brand new game. Emerald was a little disappointing,but that's ok. I have high hopes for Platinum. Good luck!

I didn't even remember they DID a proper Emerald locke until I looked back. LG and SS was amazing I agree, Moon wasn't so great because it felt less polished and rushed, mainly because it was a stream thing and less a regular series, but yeah I'm hopeful for platinum also.

I have fond memories of this game, but I do have one part that annoyed me. I personally hated that you have to have defog for one of the parts near the end it is kinda in the same boat as flash except flash has some battle uses while defog does not

I never play Defog in competitive, but I generally play 4v4 doubles where nobody really uses Stealth Rock much anyway (or if they do, it's not worth the turn spending on Defog to clear it). That said, Noctowl is pretty good in-game with Defog, it gets that Defog into Hypnosis combo.

Me and a friend of mine have been doing a nuzlocke on this game for the last couple months (we don't get to hang out often) and right from the beginning it hasn't gone very well, by the time we were at our first non rival battle against a Starly we already acquired a Kricketot, Shinx, and of course our starter (Chimchar). It was a massacre. We sent out our starter first, and he immediately got crit and put down to I think it was 2 hp, its hard to remember, so we panicked and switched out to our Shinx, the enemy Starly got another crit immediately and one shot our Shinx. At this point we were getting quite worried. So next we sent out our Kricketot, desperate to keep our starter alive, (we didn't have potions yet) the enemy Starly was faster, and it got a THIRD CRIT IN A ROW, ONCE AGAIN ONE SHOTTING OUR POOR POKEMON! At this point we were freaking out at the thought of getting wiped at the first shitty trainer, so we sent out our starter and prayed, and Arceus answered our prayers, we were faster, and against all odds got a crit that was enough to finish that bastard Starly off. To this day we still can't believe the luck we had that day, both the good, and the bad.

Raisin's Journal: Day 1: Dear Diary: Professor Rowan is a nice guy I suppose, but I want adventure! I'm tired of being cooped up for so long in that stinky lab, training very meticulously to maintain, not grow. All of that changed when the next time I was let out of my Pokeball, I was confused at first as we weren't in the lab, but instead out in the middle of the road with two kids and- Am I getting a trainer!? Ryfuba, I think that's his name, chose me and his friend chose turtwig, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one getting a trainer, the professor and his assistant Dawn ran off, saying that we're to meet up with them later. Ryfuba looked at me, I looked at him... He doesn't seem enthused by our meeting but I hope I can bridge that gap and become best friends! Drokuma, that's his friend, challenged us to a Pokemon battle. Finally a real battle! Not a practice spar but the real thing. It was close, Turtwig's defense is something to behold but I finally bested him like I usually did. By beating him to a pulp, I hope Ryfuba's proud of me! After the fight Drokuma wanted to go see the legendary Pokemon in the lake, I've never seen it myself and it sounds exciting. I had to drag my new trainer to come with, he let me pull him along so he must be at least somewhat curious about it. Then we met a strange man, muttering to himself before shoving past us (he nearly stepped on me!) I didn't know that Drokuma's plan was to catch the legendary Pokemon, but once it became apparent that neither him or Ryfuba had pokeballs we had to turn back, Drokuma ran off ahead of us and I was bogged down fighting a Starley and a Bedoof, neither of which was any challenge for a Pokemon raised in a lab! We ran into dawn at the next town, we were about to head into the professor's lab when Drokuma ran out and hitting Ryfuba's head with his own, Turtwig apologized to us for his trainer as they ran off, the nerve of some trainers! We went inside and met the professor who asked Ryfuba if he had a name in mind for me. Ryfuba picked me up, looked me in the eyes and said one word: Raisin. I've never been more confused, yet excited in my life, what a peculiar name. Even Professor Rowan and Dawn were confused as well, but it's his choice. The professor started rambling again and- Too late it's back into the ball I go!

when you get pokeballs, go back to the first route and the lake. that way you get a stary and a bidoof before the next route. if you don't, you could potentially miss out on getting something else

If I remember correctly, Gen 4 starts right after TANTOR kills the Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage. So, RYFUBA could be related to TANTOR, and RYFUBA just wants to prove he's a better Pokemon trainer than TANTOR, even though he hates Pokemon.

I'm not judging. I'm evaluating their pros and their cons. I happen to have beaten the game 3 times with all 3 starters. In my opinion, Turtwig's final form, Torterra, is a lot challenging to use due to its slow speed and weaknesses.

So can Empoleon. It can tank numerous of hits due to its Steel-type characteristic, which is why Piplup is easy. Besides, it's possible Torterra is slower than Empoleon and has a 4x weakness to Ice. Infernape is fast and happens to beat Empoleon with its Fighting-type.

That was the Evil Containment Wave. THis here is hte Pokemon Containment Wave, but it needs to recharge, so you can only use it about once per route. Also, damn thing gives off hte strangest radiation, which ends up which lingers and ends up interfering with the technique in the future, any attempt to use it again on the same route will fail. So... I guess once per route is all you get. Use this technique wisely, son.

I'm absolutely a little bit biased towards this game. It was the first mainseries game I ever owned, and I have many, many fond memories of it. From my first playthrough with my favorite tortoise, to the day I lost the cartridge. One of these days i'm going to track down a cartridge and start a nuzlocke of my very own. I'm well aware generation 4 has some pretty glaring flaws (especially diamond and peal), but this game means so much to me. Pokemon Platinum will always be my number 1.

I like the idea of Ryfuba being a reluctant protagonist. Like, he's lived his whole life isolated, isn't really motivated to do anything, doesn't even like his Pokemon, and is only going on his journey because he's being forced to and doesn't have anything better to do. I can imagine he always slouches, has a very "meh, whatever" attitude towards everything, named his Pokemon Raisin because he was drinking something grape flavored or was eating raisins beforehand and was just lazy to name it, and apparently has a hatred for everyone named Gavin (According to TFS)
