This is beautiful. He is such a blessing to me. When the wind blows hard for days around my little house on the desert. I like to listen to Butch and Rory too. It brings peace from the wind and gives my mind a break too. It speaks to my heart. God bless TEXAS.

I have to plan a holiday around a Butch Hancock tour. Butch doesn’t get over to the U.K much, perhaps a festival of Texas music at The Barbican in London would be the stuff my dreams are made of.

Might be easier to go to Texas.

Martin Willingworths Alamo lounge on west 6th street was the place were I first saw Butch live. It was september and Labor Day Weekend and Butch was noy alone. Nancy Griffith, Pat Mears and Lucinda Williams were there that same night in 1981. Greetings from Rotterdam. Ton.

The Alamo Lounge was a terrific place to hear music and was walking distance from my home. Nancy Griffith played there often. The hotel itself was a haven for the homeless; the camaraderie and family feeling were very strong in the coffee shop where I sometimes went for breakfast. I also got my haircuts at the hotel barber shop. It was torn down during a building boom - the boom was followed by a bust and many of the developers lost their shirts. I was glad.

I was fortunate enough to see Butch during a marathon session of 30 consecutive one night stands when he played 30 songs each night. What made this so unique was that in all 30 shows, he never played any song twice. A prolific songwriter no doubt, but I cannot recall if all the songs were penned by him, but I believe that was part of the draw That was some time back around 1989, give or take a year or so All shows were held @ the 'Cactus Cafe' in the Student Union of The University Of Texas @ Austin in the west mall area of the 40 acres. Had to share that, thanks.

I think he's done that 30-day no-song-twice gig more than once.

Ahh . . . Much fun were had. Indeed, all songs - more than 200 total, i believe - written by Butch his ownself. January 1990 - i remember well as it were a treat that occurred around my 30th BD, never before celebrated, and not much since . . . Many "Special Guests" (Joe Ely, Jimmie Gilmore, Richard Bowden et al); most nites carried across the street to the iconic Hole In The Wall for several more hours of west Texas revelry. Thanks again, to Butch (as well as Joe Gracey) fer all of that !
