Cheers!! That mallet still one of my favourite makes, gets a good amount of use too! I also made a smaller one recently for littler taps haha!

You're one to talk Mr 2 part process 😂 I realised that under normal pressure it didn't really make a sound, only with the compressor did it kind of work. There will be more don't worry, I might be starting YT makers whistle band, watch this space lol. Cheers buddy! 👍

That was great, really entertaining! That curve-nosed skew chisel is just terrific. I could see that thing being the one-and-only tool for some folks. (The guy who gave me my only turning lesson told me of a lad he knew who turned beautiful work and only used the parting tool! He said he could never get the hang of anything else!) Whistles are notoriously difficult - but once you get started on them I'd guess it's hard to stop... Cheers Pog, I enjoyed that.

Hi Pog, Great whistle. Wish I heard you use it. I used to make matchstick models and tried a Penny Whistle. I couldn't get the fipple right so it didn't work. Might try it again using dowel. Great work Pog. Take care. Cheers, Huw

Thanks a lot Huw! Unfortunately the sound of me blowing the air hose through it at the end was the best it got. A couple more adjustments are needed on the next one I think. Trial and error 😀 Thanks for watching buddy!

Hi Pog... another great little 10 minute woodturning project... I thought that the hole would have to go through to the end... nicely done... take care...All the best.....Andy
@tfturning
@tfturning 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, cheers mate! The hole would go right through if you were making a swanee whistle as that's where the sliding part goes creating a movable bottom. The hole depth denotes the pitch, the deeper it goes, the lower the note. Closed bottom is needed for air turbulence apparently.. lucky really as I learnt all of this after the fact 😂 Thanks for watching mate, take care and congrats on the 1k 😊👍

Looks like a fun thing to try. I suppose hole size can affect the pitch?
@tfturning
@tfturning 4 жыл бұрын
It is a fun little project for sure! From what I've read since the hole diameter doesn't matter so much but the depth of the hole is what denotes the pitch. The deeper it goes, the lower the note. Hope this helps 😁👍

A lovely little project Pog , I missed the start of the live premiere but watched it again . love the skew work mate ! not having made a whistle before but watched some videos of them being made, I believe getting the fipple right is a bit tricky but it sounds you have it 👍 Nice one Pog and cheers mate, Bram

Thanks for watching and your comment! I do really need to come back and update some of these older videos. This piece was very much an experiment, essentially replicating a shape I had only seen in pictures and some trial and error. I could absolutely tell you what I am doing but sadly not why I am doing it. Paul Lockwood, Episode 219 and Steve Ramsey - Make a wood whistle in 5 minutes are two videos well worth checking out.

I'll be honest, it sounded average at best on the day. Since then the wood has moved a little and now its purely ornamental, you win some, you lose some. Thanks for watching and your comment, I appreciate you taking the time. Drop me an email if you like me to make you a mallet. You can see my process here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/joC7gpt-iNN4e7s
