Happy Lord's Day and thank you for your thorough review. This helps me so much in deciding to use this curriculum for my daughter. I really appreciate it.

Before you started TGAB for high school LA, how much writing instruction had she had? Do you feel that the writing instruction is good in TGAB? Would you suggest adding on a separate writing curriculum (EIW or IEW for example)? My daughter wants to continue with TGAB for 9th grade, but I want to make sure that writing is actually taught...not just “talked about.” I hope that makes sense!😆

I don't think it would hurt if there's been very little writing instruction to add a year of IEW or LTW if your student is a reluctant writer or really struggles with it. Katie had 3 years of IEW and 2.5 years of LTW (Lost Tools of Writing) prior to moving to TG&TB . I will say this was WAY more than needed and very repetitive and boring for her. (We were enrolled in Classical Conversations so that's why she had so much repetition of the same thing.) However, they do fully explain all the writing projects in TG&TB so if your student is a proficient writer, she may be just fine just moving forward with TG&TB alone. I think unless she's struggling, I would move forward with just TG&TB and add later if necessary.

@@simplejoyfilledliving Thank you. My daughter is a good writer naturally, but she hasn't had much "formal" writing instruction. She really enjoys TGAB and wants to continue with it for 9th grade. I'm just still on the fence about it. // I love TGAB's ideal of only reading "good and beautiful" literature, but as a former English major and teacher, I know that there are certain books that she needs to read and be familiar with that TGAB doesn't cover. (The Scarlet Letter, To Kill a Mockingbird, Edgar Allen Poe's poetry, Shakespeare, etc.) Since she will almost certainly go to college and get a degree in the Liberal Arts, I just don't want to leave her unprepared for those English and Literature classes!

I completely agree with that! TG&TB only includes 5 books with each high school course though. So there's definitely room to add more. We added an additional 7 books in 9th and 10th for honors credit. I made sure that those extra 7 were common high school books.

I’m still quite a few years off from having one in high school but I still like getting ideas for curriculum once they get there. This looks great!

Do you have a video for your four year plan and curriculum choices? I also live in SC and have a rising 9th grader

I have several videos that cover most of it. Here is 10th: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGPbZK18lMepa5Y and 11th: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGPbZK18lMepa5Y. I didn't really have a video like this for 9th grade because we had just started KZbin that March. I really only have this language arts review, and the Shormann Math review. Most of what we used in 9th I wouldn't choose again. We only used it because we were still in CC at that point-Katie dropped out in November of that year. What we added after leaving CC that worked well: Shormann Math, TG&TB Language arts, Abeka Government, Abeka Health. We switched from Latin to French in 10th but she finished up Henle Latin in order to not lose the credit in 9th grade. I hope this helps! My email address is in the description box too.

Thanks for this video! I just recently bought this set for my rising 9th grader. I still haven't decided if we'll use it, or possibly BJU. What credit(s) did you give for this program?

The way I used it with adding the extra novels (see 10th grade curriculum choices video) I am issuing 1 honors credit for English 2 (as American Literature). That includes literature and composition.

What an informative video! Would you share how you organize all of the worksheets and map tracings? I'm going to be doing map tracing with my 7th grader this year and I have no idea how to organize the tracing sheets. Thank you!

I keep a portfolio of Katie's work for the year and we keep the map tracings in the portfolio. Once the unit is complete, I move it to the portfolio as well. Here's a video on how I keep our portfolios for the year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2K6kn6tpMRkjq8

Hi! I really enjoyed your review. We will be using TGTB High School year one and I'm trying to get an idea of how to use the readers. Halfway through the first unit it says "Read chapters 1-8 of Just David." Do you stop doing the unit and just read those chapters for a few days or do you add the reading in to you daily work from that point on? I feel like I'm missing something simple.

Thanks! You really can do it however works best for you. I always schedule the reading for the unit over the entire time that I have planned for that unit. For us that is usually 2-2.5 weeks. I usually plan this in advance at the beginning of the unit.

I love TGTB language arts for many reasons. Just one of the things I really love about it, is that students will also earn .5 a credit in Art History as well as .5 credit in geography. So your high school student will be earning 2 credits with each of the G&B High School Language Arts years. 👏🏻 Integrated curriculum is the best! 💕

Yes, that’s definitely a benefit! My daughter already had her geography credit so we didn’t need it, but it is still a great review for her.

I'm curious but how do you get that child ends up earning 2 credits with each High school year? I thought you need to add something else for the remainder .5 art history and .5 geography to make it a full credit
