In this video you will learn how to go from a series of still photos to an actual 3D model with a color texture. The software used is called Agisoft Photoscan and there's a trial version if you want to try this yourself.

So freakin astonishing what we can do with technology today. Just take a bunch of pictures, click a few buttons, and you've got a high quality mesh that would take hours upon hours to sculpt, and even more time to paint. Amazing. Definitely considering the course, I'd really love to learn more.

0.0 Holy shit this was incredible! I'm going to have to try this. Can you export the model to blender or other free modelling programs used by poor people (like me)? Also this seems like it would be incredible in conjunction with a VR headset to create a truly immerse world without the boundaries of graphics holding back the experience! Oh man your killing me, thanks for the awesome tutorial!

Do not delete points... Points should only be deleted at the end of the process. After the process is completed then we must clean the points, if we do it before we will have holes in our object.

I have a question. When snapping the photos (via iPhone) I can hold down the shutter button and it will just walk around whatever object I'm trying to shoot. This will create some blurry images in the burst as I am walking around in motion, but it does allow me to take many photos in a short period of time. Is it better to take few photos that are sharp or many that are blurryish?
@brianjohnson9802

You should take as many as possible that are sharp. Sharp pictures is the better option. It will probably just ignore any blurry ones.

Saba Khutsishvili The times when I've had shots that would not align ("NA" next to name in PhotoScan) it was due to poor choice of subject on my part or blurry photos. It's hard to say exactly though. We just released a video with some useful tips that you can check out. I added it to the description of this video. I've tried myself with my LG G4 and gotten pretty decent results. I definately get better results with the Canon 70D though. But it is possible.

@TGADigital

+이진경 Glad you like it. I'd just try rotating the object after taking your initial batch of photos to get the underside. You might need to mask these images just in case any background image data is used as tracking points. That could confuse the software. I've tried it on a few occasion and it has worked fairly well.

I'd like to note, that saying that you have 8 "GPU cores" and 7 CPU cores gives a total 15 is incorrect and complete nonsense. This is because, the "GPU cores" are quite different than CPU cores. A CPU core performs essentially a single arithmetic-logical operation at a time (or sometimes a few, especially when dealing with SIMD). It's also designed to perform other operations aside from raw computation. In contrast, a single "GPU" core should really be called a GPU multiprocessor, and it performs many operations simultaneously (like 32 or more), and is designed for mainly raw computation, especially that typical of computer graphics.
