Slalom skiing is all about changing the pressure on the rope in an exaggerated pendulum motion. Staying stacked and ski forward is key with knees in flexible position and maintaining a good pull through the first wake then keeping back knees bent and ski on edge as you swing early towards the buoy getting ready to execute the turn with arms close to maintain tightness in the rope. Push through the wake is all about feel to and needs to be smooth to let the ski do the work to set your the correct angle for the pull through the wake. It is the entire motion through the course from buoy to buoy one has to look at. The point is to get into a smooth rhythm - like a pendulum - in all speeds and rope lengths to minimize effort and maximize effect. This is the Zen experience of water skiing. It is the flow.

I don't see how imagining bars coming out from your hips helps but other than that nice tips :D Fighting the boat is so instinctive I never even realized I was doing it. I hope to put it to good practice at Powell next week!
