Great review of an amazing product! So glad you explicitly pointed out that a nat 20 is NOT a critical failure and is a complication. I have listened to a good number of 2d20 actual plays where the players refer to it as a critical fail and treat it as such. Some people just can’t get out of the dnd mindset I guess. A couple of minor quibbles with your review though; when you explained how the base mechanic worked you said a few times that you need to roll under the target number instead of equal to or under, though you did explain it correctly in your example. Also the challenge dice are not used for cover in Achtung! Cthulhu (I believe they were in Conan and a few other 2d20 games), cover provides a set numerical bonus to your resistance instead. (Pg. 13 of the starter set rulebook) Minor nitpicks, I know, but I wanted to point them out for any newcomers that might be interested in the game.

Sorry I shared the cover rules as they were originally presented in the quick-start. I forgot they changed them to a flat value. Doh! Thanks for pointing that out! ~ Jeff
