I prefer the Doctor Who rpg instead of this 5e conversion. But, I can see the reasoning for doing this 5e conversion to get players into Doctor Who using a rules system that they are used to.

Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space is a great game, quick, fun to play and it really captures the feel of the tv series. Doctors & Daleks, however, looks like a fix for something that isn't broken - an attempt to hitch onto the percieved money train of 5E. The game design looks inferior (e.g. quips!) but, more importantly, the storyline quality in the tv series has deteriorated badly over the last few years and I can't see many people wanting to play this game no matter how good or bad it is- which saddens me as Dr. Who used to be a favourite of mine.

I want to play this. But i have a suspicion this can end up as “Sherlock and his 3-4 watsons.”

You can easily put the Doctor on the periphery and have the players characters members of a time agency (like Jack Harkness) or some such thing. ~ Jeff

Thanks for the review Jeff. I've found this one quite interesting to see how C7 have tinkered with the 5e mechanics to make this work for Dr. Who. It's making me curious enough to maybe pick-up the PDF. mmm… I'll see. The flavour text would probably drive me up the wall, but I've mucked out pigs for a living, and did more than my time working retail, catering and medical support jobs, so I can cope with many bodily and psychological unpleasantries whilst I get to the parts I want from the thing! It does sound like a fascinating adjustment of 5e for a different, cinematic and more modern angle. 8:48 'nowadays… antiviolence' - lol. They'd like you to think so, but Whitaker-Who has been ugly-brutal and very non-doctor-like: e.g. effectively and unnecessarily killing the lad in Kerblam! and just walking away to allow (maybe celebrate?) an ethically corrupt and morally bankrupt exploitation machine to continue grinding people through its gears; or (after already defeating him) the, again unnecessary, 'unmasking' of the now dark-skinned Master to the racists (fair enough for an anti-hero, but-of the many things The Doctor has been-cruel and vindictive haven't been part of the character until now, and this isn't Finian's Rainbow!)… among many dubious decisions. Pertwee dishing out the occasional 'Venusian Aikido' punch was fine because the Doctor was always compassionate and confident through regenerations, seldom petty, never anxious or needy and self-obsessed like the current iteration(s). …Yeah, keeping struggling-on through the current writing, pointless reconning and brightly coloured but drab wreckage they're presenting, because I've loved the Doctor for at least 45 years. Hundreds of hours of watching, reading and listening. I guess that's why the RPGs are so brilliant - especially now we know we can't screw it up as badly as the people being paid!!
