This was a wonderful podcast to listen to. I feel like you guys actually enjoyed growing up on set. It seems that so many child stars drew up with trauma but you guys seem to have come out unharmed. I also feel like I am just listening in on a regular conversation and not actors talking. This really was a great podcast. You've made my day as a preschool teacher being treated for Pneumonia a bit better and that really perked me up! I doubt you will read my little comment buy, if you did....thanks for helping to brighten a tough and sick day for me!😊

telegrams work like letters but you go through a middle man. you go to western union not call an operator and tell them the message you want to send and to whom. western union had telegrams until 2006 and as someone who grew up in the 90s i didnt view them as out dated but just part of the times. they are instant like a fax. so this is how it works: you go to western union, fill out the form, pay the fee, the telegram is sent to their office closest to your receiver (from l.a. to new york) and then a messenger takes it to the address. if you send it by the post office you have to wait days for an urgent message to be received, this way they get it within an hour or less.

Clearly, my level of sports knowledge rivals Rider's, but I had no idea that Jim Abbott only had one hand until you guys mentioned it. I don't think it was acknowledged in any way in this episode, and yet his appearance and speech were extremely valuable and encouraging. I love that they didn't need it to bring the point home.

i have that experience on both sides: mom thought the teachers/school taught me everything and teachers thought mom taught me what they didnt. praise the goddess for tv and books. people like zack and you guys made mistakes and explored so i could learn via you. love the 90s for the moral and life lessons shows would teach

Yep! Home Ec was the same for me. We learned how to make "exotic" microwave popcorn flavors (our group did taco popcorn) and we sewed a pair of shorts. Ha!

My highschool had "senior math". Which you'd take if you were not taking a higher math like trig or calculus. In that class they would teach you how to write checks, balance your check book, complete a 1040EZ, pay bills. You had a job and paycheck each week and you had to budget your pay. It was a great class that would prepare people for the things you really need once you are put in the real world.

So the Shocked "Topanga" reference was started in an episode in Boy Meets World when Shawn is dating Jennifer (aka Kristanna Loken) who is keeping Shawn and Cory apart, but Topanga arranges for them to meet at Chubby's but be discovered by Jennifer and when they ask Jennifer how she knew Topanga reveals herself, Cory and Shawn point and say "huh Topanga". Ultimately I thought that it was a reference for Jennifer to be married to Stewart in Girl Meets World, but maybe it was just coincidence.

So, I've been binging the podcast for a few days now, and I've come up with a head cannon for the entire series of Boy Meets World that never occurred to me before. What if Boy Meets World is like The Wonder Years, in which an adult Cory is trying to describe what it was like growing up in the 90s to some future generation. They leave off the narration, but the way we see the people in Cory's life are just his exaggerated description of what they were actually like. For example, Topanga was probably really an ordinary 11 year old girl, but to 11 year old Cory, for whom all girls probably seemed like aliens, Topanga seems even more like an otherworldly creature. He also exaggerates about Eric always talking about girls and later about how girls ignore him in favor of his tragic but cool friend. Even the confused continuity of how long Cory has been friends with Shawn and in love with Topanga seems to fit this concept of someone telling a story about his life but constantly changing the details. It's just a thought. I could be wrong.

Rider reminds me of a friend if mine who really isn't into sports. My friend and Rider are the only 2 people who refer to all sports as "Sportsball" and will make wrong references to all sports such as saying, "You make touchdowns in basketball, right?"

I took a class in my freshman year of high school in the Home Economics department that was about balancing your checkbook, filling out tax forms, putting together a resume, going on job interviews, Etc. Two problems with the class: 1) it was only 1 semester and 2) it was an ELECTIVE!!!!

I LOVED Lee in The Torkelsons. That will ALWAYS be the original “Girl Meets World.” Unfortunately they tried to take two successful show concepts and recreate them in a new show and it didn’t work as well as they expected but honestly that show was so DEEP and could’ve easily been as successful as BMW

I wonder if the three of them ever read these comments. Even though I'm slightly afraid to say it, I have something that might make Will Friedle feel better about gaining weight. I am 2 years younger than him, but about a year older than Rider Strong. When the show aired, I was still trying to figure my "little teenage bisexual self" out. I vividly remember thinking in some of the later shows just how gorgeous Will Friedle looked, especially when they'd have him in jeans. He says he was fat, but I just thought he looked good enough to eat. If a lot of people tell me here that emailing about it isn't creepy, I'll do it. As someone who isn't the thinnest either all my life, I can relate and just want to hug him in empathy.

Its not too far fetched that a kid would have a fandom of a player from another team. I'm a Tigers fan but use to have a David Wright Fathead on my wall, he played for the Mets. My favorite player all time is Derek Jeter, he was a Yankee. So I could see Cory, who just loves baseball, growing fandoms for exceptional players who aren't on his team. Especially considering Phillies weren't really any good in the 90s. Lenny Dykstra would be the only star they could get in 93 for the show. Also little nugget about Jim's 2 hits, both his were an RBI. So not only did he get 2 hits with one hand, both times his team scored off his hits.

It was neither actually. The actual assignment was the 20 year reunion of the graduating class of 2000. So the year is actually supposed to be 2020 - making Topanga eligible to be president and an interesting angle being so close to what we all just experienced.
