I always found it odd how CotM is like the only MetroidVania that doesn’t have you starting from outside the castle gates. Instead, you’re like underneath the central part of it.

This is a severely underrated tune in the Castlevania series. I've never even sat down and seriously played _Circle of the Moon_, but I've had this tune stuck in my head for days just from hearing it now and again. This rendition is fantastic!

It´s a hard game trust me, one of the hardest in the series, you need to spend hours on it in order to beat it, beacuse the bosses need high skill levels to beat them, mostly with Dracula, the final boss, which is a pain in the ass to beat. I recommend you to give it a try, it´s great, and sadly is the most underrated Castlevania title.

@@joonlv3197 Exactly!, you carry only the whip in the whole game, and you have to find the potions by yourself and many other resources.

Base game is relentless. Not THE most difficult but you'll get a lot of gameovers and savepoints are scarce (which for a GBA game isn't great, frankly). It's not helped that Nathan himself is a true to form sluggish whip-user in a different way than Classicvania protagonists. For a better experience IMO, you need a monster encyclopedia. Some enemies appear in previously explored areas (including boss rooms!) and the DSS system depends entirely on rare drops. Speaking of which, DSS card guide is also a good idea. The game won't tell you what the effect of a combination is until you see for yourself, and some effects are either too vague or need a combination command like Alucard's spells. Personally, even after playing it in my most preferred way, it's the weakest Metroidvania in Castlevania history... after Simon's Quest.

How this didn't become an instant classic in the Castlevania music library is beyond me. It captures the sound and tone of the series so perfectly that it dovetails with the rest of Circle of the Moon's score, which is composed of nothing but famous A-list material.
