People saying it takes to long to set up didn't watch the video it was like 20 mins in total but he kept on explaining each step and also showing what you can do with certain things, storage etc, and also those saying 45min video to setup really did not watch cause it also has the tear down of it. Great video

I take my hat off to you. You did a professional job the whole time in front of a camera no less. I had a different brand of pop-up years ago that was the same to set up so I know what is involved. My wife and I were a good team setting this up. As people get older a lot of time they don't want to do this much work but you have to pay for all that convenience and extra weight. It's all about your choices through life. Thanks for the video!

I'm surprised at all the comments about long set up time. Two people could get that done in 10 minutes. Zipping up the awning on the break down looks like the hardest part! lol

Same, here. As for the awning, I can see just taking an industrial-grade EZ-Up shelter with me, like the EZ-Up Endeavor. Enclose it all or in part or not at all, and that thing'll stand up to anything your RV will.

I just bought a new/used HW27KS this week. I'm a single guy of 66 and it doesn't look like too much work to me. I've set up and taken down tent camping a few times in the rain and it's just what you have to do. I'm retired and don't have to be anywhere so I can wait out the rain too. Lots of space, very comfortable, lighter to tow than a hardside and I love being able to have all of the windows open to the screens and the airflow that comes through. Great video by the way.

This video is exactly what I was looking for. Though we purchased a different model, this camper has many of the same features. We downsized from a Class C and so a pop-up is completely foreign to us. The setup walk through at the dealer took about 10 minutes and I retained nothing. I needed this detailed video so I could make a checklist for us to use for the first few trips and until we become more comfortable with setup and take down. Thank you!

Very nice pop-up, thoughtfully designed with what looks like direct access to the refrigerator when in travel mode, but holy moly -- $20,000! You can find a lot of travel trailers for that kind of money. Still, it's nice to be able to store a pop-up trailer in the garage like we do, which saves on RV storage lot fees if you can't park elsewhere at home.

Great video! Just bought a used 2005 Rockwood Highwall and have been remodeling it. Even though it's an older model many of the features and setup are the same. It does take a bit of work to set up, but my wife and I can get it done in 10 minutes. Still beats tent camping, especially in the rain or when the showers are closed (thanks COVID-19!).

Need this unit now for us. Enjoyed watching the set up. I get snagged on stuff a lot more than you. Should do this in July so everyone can see how sweaty you get. I don't think popups are difficult to set up. I think your expectation of how hard it will be is if your idea of camping is in a hard side box which is fine too. This is a little more work but get the whole fam involved like a drill. Be done sooner than you think.

People say to start off with a pop-up camper and then you can graduate to an actual normal camper etc. but that’s the thing what I love about pop-up campers is the fact that it could go into a garage. Not everyone has the space to store an actual camper.

What would be even more helpful is showing the proper procedure for filling the fresh water tank and water heater as well as draining. Other than that, this video was very helpful. I would say this is the same amount of time setting up a large family tent, air mattresses, getting the bedding ready, and setting up your kitchen. You go tent camper for the cheapest way to get into RV'ing for the most amount of sleeping space. I'm looking to upgrade from a tent to a tent camper to get off the ground, gain heat and AC, and have some nice livable seating space inside. Its interesting to see what a higher end model does, but I'm more interested in a simpler model sans bathroom.

Coy Stormo wow. Video is only 45minutes. Store must be next door and a very brief nap. For a pop up, it is pretty nice. When I was a teen, the family had one. It had a wardrobe, solid that would flip to upright position. The bottom portion acted as a pantry. Of course, no way to eliminate or shower in the camper, so this is a nice addition. Also, it takes longer to do something when you are giving an explanation and demonstration on how to do.

@@sharonmurray2344 : Yes. You get it. This has all the conveniences that all the hard sides have and none of the tent trailers have. Just about everywhere I go, out West, you're going to encounter high winds and steep, winding grades. I get that those big-box RVs are setting up long-term base camps for outdoor rec, where they're all set up in rows at a big RV park, but part of the fun, for me, is only having to deal with the people I brought with me or agreed to meet, and I like to stretch how long I'm off-grid as far as possible, and stretch the winter boundary. This would be about the perfect trailer, if you beefed-up the suspension and wheels and tires (ESP is a small step in the right direction), and replaced the outdoor galley with a rocket stove install, it'd be the next best thing to packing in on horseback, and would serve as a base camp even if you were spending nights out on horseback away from the main camp.

When tying up the awning inside its bag, I recommend to tie the two end straps first, and don't tie the middle straps too tightly. Ours started pulling open the seam at the top of the bag right at that middle spot. Full replacement was covered under warranty, but that ends soon enough.

I have set up, and camped in one of these before, but it wasn't as nice as this one. Yes it takes a little time, but a thirty minute set for something which can sleep six, if it has to isn't all that bad. Having a warm place to take care of your personal needs beats the heck out of cold tent set up outside the camper. If worse cane to worse this would surely beat a tent on the ground as a form of emergency housing. Sadly they never talk about how much these things cost.

Nice video. Very helpful. This camper will work well for some folks out there, but I wasn't really a fan of the soft side campers to begin with. To me, it's not much more than a fancy tent. This takes a lot of work to setup but will be easier with 2 able bodies I suppose. I believe the non high walls of these are manual lifts, correct? I think after setting this up and taking down in the rain one time would be enough for me. I would have to bring it home and set it up again just to dry it out. Makes me appreciate Rockwood's hard sides more. Just my opinion. Haven't actually used one of these before. Again, very helpful video. Good for people to understand how it works.

I would also question the durability of the velcro. Also, the awning would be a problem if the wind got up. Taking it down with the camper set would be difficult.

It comes down to what the lower profile is worth to you and maybe what features you can find in a low-profile setup. This is the most features of any fold-down trailer. It's only weakness is under the body.

When you consider price and build quality...the Rockwood Pop up is in my opinion the best there is. I know the Somerset is somewhat better in build quality but you are looking at nearly double the price of a Rockwood pop up. My wife and I were torn by the Rockwood pop up or the Rockwood Roo. I think the Roo was a better choice....way less work to set up the Hybrid. Tip out beds on a hybrid take a minute to set up. This popup weighs 3400 lbs....the Roo is just under 4000 lbs....yup the Hybrid was a better choice. This pop up is loaded with features that our Roo has...so I tip my hat off to Rockwood for such a well engineered product but Hybrid is so much less work. The Roo has a power awning....that alone is a huge work saver. If I win the lottery I would buy this pop up in an eye blink. The one huge advantage a pop up has is going in the back 40....way more accessible to rough country. Well Mait...you did a heck of a job with set up and tear down....good job...TGO does great videos.

Can you speak to the build quality of a Jayco vs the Rockwood? As a tent camper I am looking to upgrade next Spring to something that will have room for our future kids. Teardrops have been too small and I rather do a little setup than tow a big trailer. We have been looking at the Jayco 10SD vs the similar floorpan of a Rockwood Freedom series.

I own one of these. Well, the Fleetwood colored version that is. It is NOT appropriate for going anywhere more rough than a smooth gravel road. The front steps are inches off the ground and the rear pooper pipes are likewise only inches from the ground. We just finished lifting ours 3 inches and I still worry about high angle driveway curbs.

I picked mine up yesterday after going through a thorough walk through with the tech. It tows nicely but with a Honda Ridgeline you can tell it's back there. I got home and set it up and ran into three problems. The lift didn't go all the way up, though it did go high enough to get the corner set poles in. I'll suss that out later. I couldn't get the roof support pole on the king bed side to go in so I must have something wrong with the way the fabric is stretched on the outside, It was starting to rain so I left that for tomorrow to solve. Then the main door wouldn't seat properly. I got it in enough to get it to close and latch. but the top part is wrong. That's another project for today. I didn't bother yet to set up the head. All in all, it goes just like the video. Despite the less than perfect setup, it didn't leak a single drop of rain when the major afternoon thunderstorm hit. It was coming down sideways in buckets and I watched very carefully. It took me about 30 minutes for first time setup, and I could see cutting that in half after a couple of times. I may add a free floating lounge chair just for reclining and watching TV, for which there's plenty of room inside to store it just laid over on the floor. There's also a small sofa option that would go just in front of the king bed next to the head. The huge U shaped lounge will easily seat six. I bought extended outside rear view mirrors just in case I needed them, but I took them off after I hooked up to come home because the factory mirrors are plenty sufficient to see around the camper underway. I'm using this as a solo camper with an occasional tag along so the inside area is cavernous. Even if you hade four adults on board you'd still have plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. I'll update on the three issues I mentioned.

Wellllllll, I've been on a three week road trip with a lot of overnight stays, and I have to say I'm tired of dealing with set up/take down. My earlier enthusiasm has been dampened by all the work required at the end of a long day of driving. Also, these are not good cold weather campers. I was in Mancos, CO with a low of 15 degrees and was able to keep the camper at 70, but I was sucking down a 20 pound propane tank every night and a half. It tows great, but I'll give that up for a little easier time of it. It's been a good learning experience, but I'll be looking to trade for a hard side once home. Don't get me wrong, everything works great on this camper, it's just the work involved in getting it ready. Also, I have a *lot* of repairs to make where the canvass has pulled out of it's track along with a handful of minor annoyances from all the shaking of the road. RPOD maybe?

Well, sure! But I always liked setting up camp the way I wanted it set up, and that was part of the fun. I can see reluctantly agreeing to some help, and then hovering over the helper. LOL! This trailer is way less work than how I've been setting-up camp all my adult life. I'm only looking at it, because I want to have more and work less! So it's kind of weird to me, when people talk about all the work involved. My brother-in-law is one of those people. He's also a lot better of a truck driver than I am!

Okay pick up the trailer, Forest Rivers warranty cover the cost of repairs. The whole side curtain fell down, and when putting up the trailer pop up the red line which supports the cover broke. It was in the shop for 3 weeks to repair these two items. One got taken care of. Oh they talked me into a battery cut-off switch because I had to disconnect the battery each time I stored it. My over all experience, I would advise anyone that purchase one to Consider my review. On a scale of 1 to 10 the quality and work-men-ship I world rate the trailer a 5. because there are two separate lines. Gray and Black and you have to connect the gray at camp. If you have in-coming water supply it will back-up and fill you shower. you have to turn off your reserve and use city water. Which wasn't explained when purchased. When this occur's you have to dump the gray tank and turn off city water to drain. Set- up and take down can be a problem and time consuming. Our trailer's sink has a bulge of the seal in the sink 3/4 to one side. looks ugly. The trailer had wood shavings inside the outside pull-out grill. There was to many issuse's although small seem large due to getting them addressed. For what I spent, If I had to do it again I would have gotten an ECO- Pro camper. Less room but not the stress and aggravation I've been through over the past 4 and 1/2 months of owning this trailer. I purchased this because at 60 and looking at retirement down the road. My older brother came down with cancer lost a lung but is still looking forward to me and my wife driving cross country to take him on his first camping trip. He has completed Kemo, and radiation and takes med's. This idea was on my bucket list and with all that has happen. This is the reason I give this camper a score of 5. If it were a car it would be a Gremlin. poor quality and seems as if there was no one checking the quality when assembled. If this would be you first as mine. Please take someone with more experience to look at the detailed work-men-ship. It was obvious I wasn't I saw the big picture and dream of making memories. 8/2/18

Actually the setup is pretty quick compared to my 29' travel trailer. A single axle pop up is really easy to level compared to a dual axle especially with the Bal Lever. A lot of time saved there. Also the box is so short you don't have to worry about a level site as much to get it level front to back. Hitching is also a lot easier if you don't use a WDH with the Pop Up. The WDH takes some time hooking up. Overall, the Pop Up seems like a lot less work overall compared to my Travel Trailer setup. The High wall pop up does take more setup with it's hardwall shower and such. A standard premier Pop Up like the 2716G should be a lot less work like my previous Starcraft Pop Up.

Love, Love my new trailer. 2 months of ownership and what I've learned. Walk through with this model. Make sure water lines are turned on. Under seat. which has a screw keeping it lock down. Will not have hot water if they are not turned on. Grey water needs a special cup to connect to a hose to drain. When storing it for any time. Disconnect battery. Shop around for accessories Change out locks, They are easy to get broken into. Short trips will help find the little problems. Be ready for the fun time. Don't sweat the small stuff. 5/17/18
