I’m so glad you mentioned that it’s mostly independent. That’s what I was hoping! We’re doing Level 3 right now. 😊

You have helped me tremendously with my homeschooling for my kindergartener. I love that you always show alternative methods, not just “by the book”. I think if everyone did it tailored to their kids personal learning styles, homeschooling would be even more popular than it already has become. There is no “one size fits all” for education, and I think it’s so important for parents to understand!! Because of you, I am doing the Good and the Beautiful level K, and supplementing with Abeka for my oldest daughter. It LITERALLY brings tears to my eyes to see how far she has come in our few months of homeschooling. She is so advanced for her age, and to know I am the one educating her brings so much pride and confidence to my life. Before I ever started officially homeschooling, I knew I wanted to do it, but was filled with self-doubts that I wouldn’t be able to do it well. With all of that being said....thank you for your amazing content, you are my favorite person to watch-obviously, since I have kids ages 4 1/2 and under and I am watching a level 4 curriculum video 🤣 Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family 💕

😭😭😭 this comment totally and completely made my day ❤️❤️ thank you so, so much for you amazingly kind words! I’m not sure they’re deserved, but thank you!! I’m so glad to hear school is going well for you and your family! That’s so encouraging! It’s the best feeling to know that what they’ve learned (reading, math, etc) is because of your hard work and dedication to the job…it’s extremely rewarding! I get tears of joy too ☺️☺️ Thanks again, Holly! You have the best day and Merry Christmas to you too❤️

This is the level that my youngest sister just finished up! She enjoyed it quite a bit, and grew a lot with paying close attention to directions by the end of the year--at the beginning she often missed parts of the directions or didn't pay close enough attention.

That’s a great observation on your end… it helped with her reading directions better! All part of the independence they’re trying to foster

We also do TGTB language arts a little differently. We love how they incorporate geography into the language arts curriculum even though we do our own geography learning. We don’t focus on the individual reading as my kids read a lot. We do our own spelling activities. We loved that TGTB focuses on spelling rules!!! We do writing activities as well.

I agree! The geography is pretty cool that they add in! I love the spelling rules too!

How do you do the spelling pages while not using the spelling lists as they intended? Doing half writing and half spelling a day would work great for us. Thanks you for the informative video.
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
I took the list in the back of the book (including all of the bonus words), and she just does one row a week (I went by rows, not columns). I think there about 25 rows so she will have spelling words for that many weeks.

My oldest did level 4 last year and it looks like they updated it again! So pretty! 😍 She's almost finished with Level 5 (she flew through it this year) and I adjusted it to be more independent. There was a lot of reading aloud to me, which we adjusted. There's great build up with Writing essays and setting it up, but not a separate book like Level 4. Which I think is a bit of a bummer, but I guess that's because grammar is taking a back seat now that the basics are pretty thoroughly covered.
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
Yes I think they put this newer edition out last fall. We’re really loving it! Good to know about level 5! How did your daughter like it?
@SummerMeyers2 жыл бұрын
@@thepracticalhomeschooler She didn't at first because it felt like a lot of busy work with the Sentence Dictation and grammar cards. I also had an additional reading list for her, and she was needing to write a paper a week for her co-op so there was a lot going on. Now I go through each lesson and cross out redundant work, and repurpose the lesson to work with her papers she's working on. She's a lot happier, and her handwriting has improved with the Sentence Dictation which I had been yammering at her to do for years now. 😅 So it works great! She's the only one I've had to make adjustments for--my other 2 I don't need to change anything. Wow that answer was a lot longer than I thought and then some. 😅😅😅

@@SummerMeyers o that makes sense! Especially considering the extra work from co op! It’s always nice to find that perfect balance 😊

This was such a good review. We just started blending TGAB Simply Math 1 with our other math program and it’s amazing. We are now using their early readers and I’m considering getting the Level K as a supplement to AAR Level 2 with my 1st grader. Did you use the earlier levels of TGAB?
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
Sounds great! It’s nice when you find a few things you like and combine them! We did a little, but I prefer Abeka for the younger years (just a personal preference 😊).
@kristinkager67012 жыл бұрын
What made you switch from Abeka LA? We are using Abeka parent led grade 3 right now and I love it but next year, I will be homeschooling two kids and I feel like Abeka just has so many moving parts. I’m considering TGATB LA for my kiddo next year.
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the level for Abeka. I can’t speak for the math (as we’ve only supplemented with their math), but for the LA, I found the 3rd grade to be the most straightforward. K5 definitely has a LOT of moving parts and the parts and charts get progressively less each year. But yes, it can be overwhelming! I have several videos on Abeka and how we tweak it a bit. I love Abeka for the younger grades, and would have definitely used it this year for her, but I always reassess every year to see which direction we’re gonna go. We decided TGTB was going to be a good fit for this year. (She used it in the past and it had to much fluff for her which is why we went with Abeka), but now she’s a bit older and can appreciate it a bit more.

Did you do Abeka for 3rd and this for 4th with the same child? We are currently in Abeka 3rd. I love the way this brings in so many subjects though. Can you give me a quick comparison/review/preference from your perspective, please? ☺️
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
Yes she’s the same child😊 we liked both for different reasons. I’ll probably do a side by side comparison video of the workbooks in the near future. But I have done a video of the scope and sequence of Abeka and TGTB for levels k through 4, which gives a comparison between them as well, so you can get an idea. I’ll grab the link and it will explain the differences

I thought she preferred Abeka… is there a reason why you changed from that to the good and the beautiful? Sorry if you mentioned this in another video
@thepracticalhomeschooler2 жыл бұрын
She did…for 2nd and 3rd grade she loved Abeka and would still be totally on board if we chose to Abeka for 4th grade. I loved the layout of TGTB level 4 and when I showed her, she thought it looked really great too! I really made sure I showed her samples of both so she could get a good idea of the lessons for each. We talked about it a lot over the summer and ultimately decided to go this route. But for the younger years, yes she definitely preferred Abeka 100%!
