D’s collection is truly to die for. Every gun of his you pull out from him is like 3-8,000 with a 3-4,000 scope on it, and the fact he added you to his trust just so you can do these videos? Sounds really standup, looking forward to the full review in each of these guns. I’m a big fan of each

I think one big thing is, body armor penetration also equals obstacle penetration. While the extended engagement distances might not be a factor in a battleground like major metros in Korea, Taiwan, etc., the power will be beneficial in situations like punching through things like car doors and mailboxes while having great carry through. Especially out of the likes of the XM250 LMG, maybe its not the *most* ideal for a general infantry rifle but the MG is extraordinary. Ammunition compatibility alone is enough reason to roll it out in tandem. I also think we'll see in the future a move to a polymer based hybrid case to reduce ammo weight and allow the carry of more. And on the weight of the rifle, it weighs roughly the same as the Corps' M27 with both being fully kitted out. I have a feeling the Marines would have a field day bullying the Army for complaining about the weight they already deal with

I’m no military expert either, but I can see the Fury fitting in nicely as a DMR type weapon and replacement of .308 Scars and AR10s. I believe I recall reading that round was specifically designed to defeat Chinese issued body armor up to a specified range. It’s probably a little much for your average grunt soldier, but I can only speculate.

277 Fury/6.8x51 was not a user generated requirement. The Top Brass or 'Perfumed Princes" in the Pentagon had an idea and like so many of those ideas, it just serves to waste our tax money. I don't blame SIG, I blame Big Army. The only ammo available for civilians is the civilian version of the "Practice" ammo, not the military ball with it's 80,000 to 100,000 PSI (rifle and ear destroying) AP Ammo. You are partially correct that the "Reasons" given for the requirement were long range machinegun fire in Afghanistan from belt fed PKM's. The Americans either used our own belt fed machine guns, mortars, air support, artillery or maneuver to mitigate or defeat these threats. The Afghan Nation Army would fire all their ammo blindly from one position, run out or ammo and get killed when the enemy closed and flanked them. The AP requirement was not in response to the "Man-Jammy" wearing Afghans, but to a future Russia or China war. Either way, this is a rifle without a mission that no one asked for and it will be quietly un-adopted.

@@jager6863 the reduced range ammo (RRA) is not a lower pressure round the 113 grain 6.8x51 available as contract overrun is different from the GP ammo in the bullet design (RRA is flat base vs GP being EPR style) the RRA ammo is designed to mimic 80% ballistic similarity to the GP round while maintaining a surface danger area of currently fielded 7.62x51 the flat base provides aerodynamic instability at around 800 M keeping the 6.8x51 safely within the range safety areas of 7.62x51 you take that same 113 bullet & give it a boat tail & that round now requires 1.5 kilometers more for the surface danger area. All that was before I heard he shot the 135 all brass ammo not the hybrid 113... still relevant information above but not applicable to this video experience

@@thetexasgunvault2There are several types of .277 Fury hunting ammo that uses the hybrid case and is 95% the same PSI as the high pressure military combat rounds. It's hardly a waste of tax money either, as even if it turns out to be unsuitable for standard issue, the 6.8x51mm is perfectly suited to replace 7.62x51mm; it outperforms the old 7.62mm in every meaningful way. It wasn't created as a reaction to Afghanistan either, that's a straight-up lie the internet commandos came up with and keep spreading around; Afghanistan has nothing whatsoever to do with the development of the 6.8x51mm. As jager stated , the core concern was defeating body armor from peer threats, whether that was ever a realistic future threat or not. Certainly, the brass that championed the 6.8mm didn't seem to anticipate the growing threat of cheap anti-vehicle and anti-personnel drones.

I have to seriously question issuing a suppressed weapon to infantry. How durable is that suppressor going to be in combat? If a soldier has to hit the deck hard during a firefight and the rifle gets slammed hard, how much can that suppressor take before it's bent out of alignment and getting baffle strikes? What happens when the soldier can't get the hot, damaged suppressor off in the middle of a firefight. Once he does get it off, how effective is he going to be with that intense muzzle blast?

I was pretty much expecting that review of the spear. Bigger bore, bigger bcg, side charging, gas piston, folding stock and suppressor is a lot of weight. I think you’re right about the suppressor, with the high pressures coming out of the short barrel it’s pretty necessary to mitigate the noise, flash and gas or the guys next to you in the foxhole or at the range will hate you. I don’t think hearing safe was an agenda item with the suppressor when they chose 277 fury.

We all know the 6mm MAX was the answer to the AR15 replacement, the 277 Fury should have only replaced the marksman rifles.. the AR10 rifles. US military dropped the ball hard
@thetexasgunvault212 күн бұрын
That is a very good point.
@GlockyMcGlockFace15 күн бұрын
Sig made a dud with that rifle, the ammo burns out barrels, the United States is the only one adopting it so there is a huge supply and logistics issue, it’s heavy, and the optic that is supposed to go with it doesn’t quite work well. The next war is once again going to be fought in the pacific on islands and in jungles at close ranges where speed and weight are going to matter, it’s almost like the army went back to the m14 but with a ridiculous over pressured round that is more complicated to make and burns out barrels, for all the money dropped into this round they could have just invested in over pressuring a 7.62 round.
@thetexasgunvault215 күн бұрын
Those are all great points! I don't blame Sig, they were just giving the military brass what they requested. I think the fault will lie with the military itself and the generals in charge.

Well, the M1 is a much more simple rifle and was a great tool for its time and the type of warfare it was used in. Our modern battlefield is different, and while people can be trained on this rifle, it doesn't mean it would be the most effective for the task at hand.
