Thüringerwaldbahn Driver's Eye View: Tabarz to Gotha Hauptbahnhof, Thuringia, Germany: 4th June 2015

This rare footage is taken from a camera mounted on the dashboard in the driver's compartment of the tram, and features the entire journey from Tabarz to Gotha Hauptbahnhof. The footage has been edited to remove the 'still' sections when the tram is halted at stops.
The journey that this tram takes goes through the following stops: Tabarz; Marienglashöhle; Friedrichroda (TWSB); Reinhardsbrunn Bf; Reinhardsbrunner Telche; Walterhausen Schnepfenthal; Walterhausen Gleisdreieck; Walterhausen Wahlwinkel; Leina; Boxberg; Gotha Krankenhaus; Sundhausen; Gotha Am ha we ge-Markt; Gotha Schöne Aussicht; Gotha Wagenhalle; Gotha Ernststraße; Gotha 18-März-Straße; Gotha Myconlusplatz; Gotha Bertha-Von-Suttner-Platz; Gotha Gartenstraße; Gotha Huttenstraße; Gotha Orangerie; Gotha Bahnhofstraße and Gotha Hauptbahnhof.

Tree cutting is probably a real concern, keeping branches away from the overhead wires. I imagine there may be a special railcar that travels the track with the equipment to trim back the trees. This is indeed one of my favourite train travel videos.

+Moss Travelogue When I saw the clearing I immediately thought autobahn. I see there is a bundesautobahn 71 under construction not far away. Apparently the highway building lobby is alive and well in Germany as well as the USA. I hope this railway is well patronized and continues for years to come. Wish I could ride on it!

+brushcreek42 the tram is reasonably well used, but is also promoted as a tourist attraction. Public transport in Germany is very much valued by government and the public, where car ownership is not as great as it is in many other industrialised nations.
