I always laugh when people complain about Miles being black. "Okay we doing a black Spider-Man now?" Yes. Yes we are. That's what Spider-Man is. That's what he's always been. That one hero you can see yourself as. That one guy among gods and super soldiers and billionaires who's down there on the street, living your exact life, but still choosing to help people. A black Spider-Man, a white Spider-Man, a gay Spider-Man, a Spidey in a wheelchair (who does exist), are VERY necessary. Because if a kid, or anybody really, can see themselves in a Spider-Man, they'll love it. That's what the mantle is for. Anyone can wear the mask, as it's said

This actually has the opposite result. Unfortunately it's the controversy from the push back that elevates these scams in the algorithm. What was once something that would have limited range due to an inability to reach an audience is now broadcast to more people due to it's ability to retain attention. Do you actually want to minimize the impact of these grifters? Try to help people around you. People who believe these obvious falsehoods do not do so because of facts and reason. They do it because something is going wrong in their life and they need something to believe in. It could be a scape goat for their problems. It could be for a sense that they know something others don't and it makes them feel special. It could just be a distraction. I have friends and family that have succumb to these bad ideas. All of them are spiraling. Divorce. Loss of work. Addiction to drugs and gambling. Health issues. Emotional trauma. It is not healthy people who are drawn to this. You are not swaying them with videos like this. All you're doing is giving the grifters the attention they need to survive and reach a larger audience. The ability to find people that are struggling. But that's part of the game. This sort of thing gets engagement. Which means money for everyone involved. So no one cares. Even me making this comment is feeding part of the machine. So we see infinite 'debunk' videos and everyone circlejerks in the comments about how right the person is and how stupid the grifters are and the problem just persists indefinitely, because it's not about solving the problem, it's about pointing it out so you can cut out your own slice of the engagement for yourself. You can't reason with the unreasonable. Thousands of people are proving these people wrong across all social media and have been doing so for almost two decades. Yet all these people have failed to reduce the spread of these obviously false ideas. I can guarantee for every one person this changes the mind of it helps the grifters reach hundreds more. You're all fighting the battle the wrong way and the really frustrating part is that you're all using reason and logic to 'debunk' people, but you can't use any reason or logic to figure out that you're part of the problem. The lack of introspection hurts to watch.

Funny you mention that flat earther whose fans turned on him the second he went against their ingrained beliefs, I witnessed something similar happen to Critical Drinker temporarily. Back when South Park made that episode making fun of Disney and Kathleen Kennedy, people were insisting it was making fun of “alt right” or “woke left” people exclusively, but critical drinker in his vid about it had a more nuanced take, about how it was making fun of both sides (which South Park tends to do), and that sometimes right wing people can be just as obnoxious as “the message” You wanna know what happened? Absolutely got ripped to shreds in the comments. Never seen a fanbase that usually ate everything he said up disagree with him and even insult him so frequently and intensely. That was a few years ago, and now we Witcher 4 is coming out and people aren't skeptical because of Cyberpunks launch they are upset because a woman is the mc, and I'm like wtf have you not seen how the third game ended, of course Ciri was gonna get her own game, how is that woke. Then you have all of these people taking about how woman look in games, and I'm like how tf do you expect them to look. I've seen games where woman looked like actual men it's called MK9, I know for me, if I don't like something I'm just not gonna watch it or play it and I after a while I just got tired of hearing people complain about stuff they don't like. I've thought about this phrase for a while and it's made me notice a pattern in media reviews that I think started to help me notice which are made by people who genuinely care about film and games and people who are just grifting. Actual critics will discuss things like dialogue, plot structure, consistency and character work as well as things like marketing and release windows. If they go the extra mile, they may even make suggestions on improvements they feel the piece of media can make. Grifters will discuss things like "the message," the demographics of the characters (whether or not they have any relevance) and use what I basically like to call buzzword bingo in their script.

@ApexGale2 күн бұрын
@@NebLlebUhh....no? The entire purpose of Ken in that movie was to show how men are easily indoctrinated into this idea that they should hold more power over women (which is an objective fact in our world whether you want to believe it or not. The movie is actually pointing out how otherwise well-intentioned men are tricked into becoming misogynistic, because they tie all their worth to pursuing women and get frustrated when their efforts don't pay off. Instead of finding value in things like close friendships and hobbies. I made the mistake of engaging with a supporter of the media grift who was claiming the Intergalactic protagonist was ugly and woke and that characters with shaved heads caused 'normal people' to recoil in horror. So naturally I mentioned Furiosa and Evey Hammond and various other actresses who have had shaved heads either for roles or just in their personal life. He claimed that the difference was that the actresses were attractive first. So then I showed him Tati Gabrielle, the model and actress who plays the protagonist in the game, and asked if he genuinely thought she was ugly. I've been waiting almost a week for his reply. These people don't really think for themselves, they just look to whatever thought leader they follow (Grummz was shown in this, somehow that almost 60 year old failure of a developer is a media grift though leader) and just parrot what they say. Intergalactic is bad because woke. The Witcher 4 is bad because Ciri is the main character and will be 'stronger than Geralt' and it's like did you even play The Witcher 3? Or read the books? As much as I enjoy laughing at how wrong they are constantly, it is exhausting and draining being around their ignorance.

I think the proper term is "product placement". I heard people complain about the Adidas shoe, but I only caught it the second time I watched the trailer because I BLINKED the first time around lol. I understand that showcasing real-life brands in games supposedly breaks the immersion factor for some, but it didn't bother me at all. Maybe I'd feel different if it was an actual advertisement. To dislike a game because of product placement seems a bit extreme.
@casteanpreswyn75282 күн бұрын
@kiaba360-4 not at all. Product placement is the bane of all media. It's gross and only exists so the ceos and other executives can pad their wallets while paying their workers next to nothing.

That’s a fair thing to state, however, when I did some reading on the setting it makes sense to have these products because they are like, correct me if I’m wrong, ancient products and nostalgia in this world. Either way. It looks fun and cool.

It’s not a problem for me, sure Death Stranding is weird for having energy drinks yet, cyberpunk 2077 including a car from a certain German company feels true to that world. Johnny Silverhand has taste for sure. As long as it isn’t anachronistic, it works.

Your point about people not knowing what a grifter is applies to so much of society beyond this context. The overall understanding of language is at an all time low, with most people repeating what they’ve heard you say back at you because they feel insulted by a word they don’t understand. Like I had an ex girlfriend that I was arguing with once, and I was a little terse in the argument. She then starting telling me I’m doing things I regret, like being terse with her… at which point I burst out laughing and explained that being terse means being short with someone. It’s not wrong to be terse if you’re in a heated debate/argument, it shows you’re trying to regulate your emotions in a complex and intense situation

I would honestly love to see you make a video on the whole "both sides" rhetoric, where as soon as the right gets criticized they will try to paint with as big of a brush as possible to say "The left does it too!". I don't even mind calling out both sides, but it's only ever used to deflect criticism from the right, and that's where the grift is

Thank you for this video birdman. Thank you for bringing back my sanity. Looking back, I don’t think there has ever been a point in time where grifting was as prominent as it is now. Maybe I was just too young and didn’t notice but todays landscape is looking rough. And the young generations seem to be affected the most. I truly have no clue what there is to do about this shit.

Whats crazy to think is grifting has been going on for a long time. I would take a guess with the invention of new technologies it opened up a new lane of possibilities for those scumbags

Grifting has been around forever it's just that the internet has made it easy to farm outrage to people its far easier to create a angry mob and lead with fear than to listen to the rational and correct person telling people the real solution but because these people use buzzwords that have been ingrained in a lot of people's minds and we live in a age where being a prick is the popular thing to do then of course these puppet master's are gonna keep getting more strings attached too there finger's really the best way to beat them is just to expose there lies and mock them for there idiocy which will hopefully make people realize they have been had.

The Internet and social media make it so much easier for them to spread this garbage and until recently, no one has really attempted to push back on it.

I'm still listened and only nearing a 4th of the way through. But my issues with ND's new game is that we literally have no information about the game except the general vibe. We know nothing about the world, characters, or major themes.

@@ldcg106 Nobody said you can't crap on mediocre products. The issue is most of the people saying this never actually consume the product, they simply parrot the opinions some guys that validate their worldview say online.
