senkrad5 It's a drink in a metal container. Metal is more reactive than glass, so if it doesn't react with the metal, it's *usually* safe to pour it into a glass. Also it's a drink, so I doubt it would really ruin anything.

This is what I saw on the site: As it turns out, it’s a drink that contains both white fungus and bird’s nest. These aren’t things you normally think of as being drink ingredients, but here at Armenian Fungus Cake we wouldn’t waste your time with normal drink ingredients. This drink really does contain chunks of white fungus as well as real bird’s nest. If you’re not familiar with this particular type of nest, it’s not the collection of leaves and twigs that you might imagine. This nest is produced by the Edible-nest Swiftlet (Aerodramus fuciphagus), and it is composed of hardened saliva. Guys...you just drank bird saliva.

Agar is polymer made up of a kind of sugar molecule called galactose. It's derived from red algae. It's used in labs as a substrate for micro organisms such as fungus and bacteria to live in; the clear stuff in the bottom of petrie dishes. I'm guessing it's in the drink to keep the fungus alive. It's pronounced ahger.

***** I doubt it. While it's true that agar can be used as a growth medium in microbiology, it's mainly for supportive purposes as very few species can actually digest it. You have to mix it with a nutrient broth first (eg. TSA or 5% sheep blood) in order for it to be actually conducive for growth. In cuisine agar is usually used as a gelatin substitute, emulsifier, thickening agent, or to add texture. It's probably being used as a thickener in conjunction with the carboxymethyl cellulose. Fun fact: Agarose (a component of agar) can also be used a gel matrix in the separation of proteins and DNA fragments.

I've tried these sorts of drinks before, and don't really like them much. But I think there are better brands that ones in tins, the ones I had were in small bottles, they're fresher and apparently healthier, but sadly more expensive. The weird blob things they talked about are probably the white fungus, it's really slimy and tastes weird.
