This year Thai farmers have had bad weather that has affected many fruit farms . It's forecast that there will be one more year of this weather pattern before it gets better .
Many durian farmers have lost part of all of their crops .This is leading to less durian fruit for the local market and export . With durian harvest down country wide it will put a finacial strain on many farms. support your local farms when possible

durian can grow almost anywhere in the Philippines. The problem is that typhoons happen and sometimes are strong enough to decimate entire orchards. Most of tge philippines is unprotected from these typhoons.

I would not be sitting on a tailgate like that. Especially with all that durian near you.

Hey Terry, Can you explain if these are contract labour provided by the chinese wholesale buyers or are you paying them to drop the durian? Are there different groups on the farm collecting the fruit or is it just the one buyer? Where do they weight the fruit to tally up the total so you know how much baht you will get it total, and when do they grade the fruit as A B or C to decide on final price? Really nice to see some fresh durian being harvested! I read on CNA news out of Singapore that its a tough season this year for Thailand Vietnam and Malaysia due to drought and prolonged hot season, with a lot of the Malaysia fruit dropping too soon and price being very low due to having to sell excess fruit. They also said demand from China down so far due to economic conditions ( chinese feeling poor this year), but they expect sales and prices to improve later in June / July. They also quoted pricing as $RM50 for musang king, $RM80 for black thorn, and $RM25 for monthong ( not sure if this is accurate s it was a news article) PS I watched further and see they are weighing on the farm, all good !

Hi kev The buyers have their own pickers when they come out that they pay. If I wanted to hire the labor to pick my fruit they would charge 5 B per kilo .. As for grading when they bring it back to there shop they then grade it .
