My budget last month in the south of Thailand was $400. $70 for electricity to run the AC 20 hours a day, No rent, $12 for internet, 60 cents for my flip phone, $2 for water, $80 fuel for car. $10 for car insurance. That's $175 without food. I eat out a lot and buy some foods for relatives. If I didn't eat restaurant food, it would be easy for me to live on $300 a month. I live on a paved road in rural Mai Seab/ Koh Khan. 1 mile to 7-11 and the freeway. 5 miles to KFC or hospital. 20 miles to Phattalung. My house is paid for.

A warning about renting ANY place in Bangkok ... electricity is very expensive. VERY. Thailand is very hot and Bangkok doesn't 'cool off' in the evening because of all the concrete that releases heat when the sun goes down. If you're a single male you should NOT be looking for a place over 42sqm because you must AIR-CONDITION it all the time when you are home. I have been in very large apartments and the Thai or Western people who live in these impressively large apartments sit in puddles of sweat because they refuse to run their air-conditioners (electricity = $$$$$). Find a modest place to live, one that is easy to air-condition - you will thank me later.
@BrianSiart5 ай бұрын
What's expensive to you? Here in Hawaii my wife and I pay on average $250 per month for electricity and we don't even use an AC in our house at all. We also pay for gas for our stove and our hot water heater and that is about $150 per month as well. So, I'm guessing in Thailand its at least that much if you're talking expensive? BTW my wife and I are retiring to Thailand in a few years, have a conservative budget of $5K per month to live on, so should we be worried about the cost of living in Thailand?
@guymandudely3245 ай бұрын
@@BrianSiart Hawaii is America and is expensive. Thailand is SE Asia and will be less expensive for you and your wife provided you don't waste your money BUYING a condo there. My point is that Westerners who think that 'bigger is better' should know that bigger is NOT better when finding an apartment/condo to live in because electricity is very expensive in Thailand (everywhere). Your $5K/month budget should enable you to find a comfortable 15-20K baht/month place to live in Bangkok if that is your destination. You will have a great choice of condos because foolish Westerners buy condos for 'investment,' then they can't find Thais who can afford the rent. You can negotiate the rent in Thailand especially if you are willing to sign a 1-year lease.

He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. He was put into a tomb for 3 days, and then Abba Father raised Jesus to life and He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must all sincerely receive Jesus to be a true child of God. It says in John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." Starting 1 Jan 2024 Thailand now taxes the income of retired Expats (including Pensions), if you live in Thailand 180 days or more in a year, while all the other countries in SEAsia do not. Hopefully Thailand will change their mind, but as it is now, starting on Jan 2025 Expats have been told to pay income taxes on the money they brought to Thailand from 1 Jan 2024 onwards. Thailand also wants to implement worldwide taxation, so even if you dont remit the money to Thailand they want to tax it . No matter how good their Visas are or the country is - for retired Expats Thailand is not the best option (we are leaving).

Why is everything in $, You cant spend dollars in Thailand.

Every one know that currency more than any other currency … u must be from EU
@arturgrabczewski38166 ай бұрын
THATS NICE. But for $2000 per month you can easily live in Portugal, Spain and many other European countries. Plus you get a free healthcare and no problem with the residency status if you are EU member.

Would much rather live in Thailand than any European country
@arturgrabczewski38166 ай бұрын
@@JohnSkyLey that's not the point. Thailand used to be very affordable but now the cost of living there can be compared to some cheaper European countries. A decade ago the gap in terms of affordability was huge now it's marginal.

We have a lot of family in Thailand. Thinking of retiring there in a few years idk. Early retirement but we’d have 11k a month between my husband and I. Love Thai food. We have some Chinese relatives but moving to China is a not a dream of mine lol. Just tired of paying taxes to a corrupt government. Only thing that might make me not want to retire in Thailand, would be you can’t own property there like you can in America so I wouldn’t be able to pass my home down to my daughter. Great video, learned a lot. Good to know their hospitals and medical facilities are good.

What hospitals have you been to? Just in Bangkok? ‘Cause the hospitals in Pattaya suck. Even the doctors barely spoke English and I felt that they were rude. I’m polite and soft spoken. I was having a legitimate medical emergency. They treated me like I was crazy or something and could barely communicate with me.

Let me put living in Thailand in proper perspective. My wife of 30 years is Thai and hasn't even visited for the last 10 years, never mind thinking of returning for our golden years. And we could live like rock stars in Bangkok, but Thailand has opened its doors to all the world's bottom feeders and has become a ghetto for lost old guys (and pathetic young guys in search of themselves) and those who prey on them, the snake oil salesmen ("come on over"). I enjoyed my 2 assignments in the 80s (when single) and 90s (when married) but was happy to leave. This coming from a guy with nearly 45 years of travel to Thailand, and speaks Thai.

"nearly 45 years of travel to Thailand, and speaks Thai" That is a lot of traveling to a place you don't like. 🤣😂🤣
