The culture in Southeast Asia is always identical, from the historical background, Southeast Asia was known as Nusantara, before they were independent countries. The culture is really similar to Javanese culture, which has Wayang Kulit. The clothing are also similar too. Chicken Satay become popular food in Thailand also, although it is originated from Java. Why are there so many mean comments about who really own the traditions? We might have very similar things to our neibour countries like Khmer. The art is ours not only owned by one. Please not argue this video is meant to bring peace. We are neibours. It is like this because of the movement of the borders of our countries and the traditions stay in that place and doesn’t move. For example ballet. Where is it originated from? The tradition is shared over Europe and no one is arguing about who owns it.

A lot of Thai culture was influenced by neighboring countries and Buddhism. Since the beginning of Siam, we were just a kingdom (not a country, not a state yet), we shared a lot of culture with neighboring kingdoms so that's why Laos, Cambodia and Thailand have a lot in common and it's best not to claim who is the true originator of those culture since they are Buddhism(and Hinduism)-based culture country.
@494403706 жыл бұрын
Da Phetdala I think you misunderstanding the different between Thai and Tai. Tai is the tribe and they are live in northern of Thailand and many part of this region including Myanmar Laos Vietnam even in Cambodia but they call themselves in different or sub-tribe such as Tai-Yai ,Tai-dum etc. But they never call themselves Lao. In the past Chinese call people live in the Chaopraya River area or Thailand now as Sian or Siam not Lao as well. And we call our country as Siam before changed to Thailand because we need to unite our country after WWII and we call our people who live in Thailand as Thai. Thai does not mean Tai even we have Tai peple here. Therefore Thai can't be Laos as you mention above as well.

Why Cambodian keep saying Thai copied from Khmer? LMAO before you said that, have you ever know that all histories you've learned are fake and re-wrote by the French.
@salm34384 жыл бұрын
Why? Because there’s truth in that. Cultural appropriation is a more appropriate word than copy. Much of what Thais consider to be their cultural heritage can be traced from the Angkorian period. You don’t have to look far to see this - just look at the Thai written language, it is considered as a child language to Khmer and is derived from the Khmer written language. The histories we learn here in high school as well as in college is from the US, not French. The narratives that many Thais provide concerning their cultural heritage is not aligned with the Khmer understanding nor with what is accepted by academia. This is why.
@salm34384 жыл бұрын
@Yoswin Freeman Cambodians lay claim to Khmer heritage - I’ve never suggested otherwise nor have I suggested Cambodians are purely Khmer. Much of what is considered Thai cultural heritage can be traced back to the Angkorian period - I can accept this but do all the Thais? Fake history? Not at all... lots of papers written on this subject. So long as there are those that continue to deny Khmer heritage in Thai culture, their will be those whom are more than willing to correct. Past “glory”... who cares 😂. It’s not about that at all.
@salm34384 жыл бұрын
@Yoswin Freeman Khmer heritage is a shared “past” for both Cambodians and Thais - a shared past that’s still very much evident in Thai culture. As long as this is accepted, there is no disagreement.
