KZbin can surprise me at times with these hidden gems. Mavis Nicholson was as brilliant an interviewer as Mel Brooks a comedian.

A great interview. Mel seemed to be really enjoying Mavis' company and she was obviously in awe of him and his talent. Its true that humour is a great attractor.......I find him incredibly sexy.

Mavis tried to break through Mel's comedic defensive wall but Mel always reverts back to comedy to protect himself. I think he showed glimpses of what he truly believes but would then quickly cover it up with a joke or by putting on a performance. I would guess there is quite a bit of insecurity as he shies away from being his authetic self.

Oh yes, Mel always used comedy as a shield. In this interview there's even another Mel's side that comes to the surface: his charming side. I felt a not too veiled erotic tension between the two during this interview, he always loved women, especially bright and funny ones 😊

He is polite and goes along with all her questions but doesn't enjoy the interview, no laughs. His eyes don't lit up even once. She probably doesn't have a sense of humor. Needs to prove her professional approach and smartness throughout. I had never heard of her before or after. Was she the female version of Parkinson in England ?

In support of your comment, please note his 'half second' glance at his wristwatch at about 21:30 on the timer at upper left. In general however, good content.

Just to say, I disagree.

What a sour comment. Did you not hear her laughing all the way through? Brooks seemed to find her a very good audience and looks to me like he enjoyed the conversation. She is a wonderful person, one of the best we ever had.

In the 1970s/early 80s Mavis was generally relegated to afternoons unlike male counterparts who had the usual chip on their shoulders and were thought of more highly and had their shows in prime time. She was always a great listener and enjoyed people's psychologies; the male interviews less so; she never had an axe to grind. A lovely woman; someone who, as a friend, would have been cherished.

After watching this interview- I must say - Mel and His Wife are probably the most intelligent couple in the history of Hollywood . I still think without her in the Graduate - that movie would not be anything special .
