I love her and she’s playing so cleverly, but no, given an intersex child (1 in 300-this is normal and worthy of discussion), aristocratic parents would prefer to have a girl whom they can give away and have later deniability of her infertility, versus a girl dressed up as a male heir whom they aren’t sure can carry on a biological line. And it turned out Georgie couldn’t. Like the Spencers, they’d have just kept trying until they had an indisputably male family heir; they wouldn’t take a girl with a slightly flappy “downstairs” in need of a surgical trim and call her their male heir to give her “an edge.” I thought her mother was a heartless and abusive narcissist, anyway-they wouldn’t put the child ahead of their needs, and they need their line to continue. What we can say purely and without dispute is that they thought she was a boy, and so she was assigned a boy and raised as a boy. Her husband found out, and he didn’t mind admitting he heartlessly beat this woman, because he felt he was beating a biological man who had taken him for a ride to steal his title, which she still used to promote rather silly faux-aristocratic airs to this day.

I remember getting a spanking and my parents were NOT abusive infact they loved us enough TO discipline us coz it's not an easy thing to do .... no parent wants to punish their child sometimes doing the right thing isn't the easiest thing.

I don't know why people are commenting on whether Lady C is transgender or intersex, because she is neither. Lady C made it very clear that she was born female and remains female. At birth, her genitals were observed to be deformed (clitoris and labia...she was not born with penis and testicles or a mix of female/male genitals) and it was not outwardly recognisable whether she was male or female, and so she was raised, intentionally (albeit wrongly) as a male. As she reached adulthood, she had an operation to correct the female congenital deformity, and she is what she is, and what she has always been, a female....not transgender, not intersex.

My question here now is are we going to go through this with the next generation? We have doctors by the request of parents pumping hormones that the child’s body will never produce naturally and we expect everything to end well? Lady C had strength to fight back but what about the children who don’t have the same strength of this woman.

You seem to know more than Lady C has divulged (as far as I can tell). She has never mentioned her chromosomes, merely the appearances down below looking like a boy at birth, but there was not the medical knowledge or expertise back then? Menstruation is a sure sign of going through female puberty, if one had uterus &/or ovaries (regardless of latercfertility). It would be understandable if she was born 'intersex' with indeterminate external characteristics & had produced female hormones in puberty suggesting ova?

I appreciate the sense-making she gives in how the "ground rules" were about "talking back" to your parents. My mother was severe about that. To me, it was just a difference of opinion, and in school, our thoughts were encouraged by our teachers - to a a point, of course. But at home, even suggesting disagreement brought swift punishment from my Mom, and I know she was brought up even more severely on that issue. I think of disagreement as a reason to discuss ideas openly, so I really haven't changed on that score. It depends on how it's done though. With respect, with questions, with a real attempt to understand the other point of view, not jumping to conclusions or representing their opinions falsely.

Love this lady, Lady C. She has a potty mouth that is incredibly endearing too. Quite the paradox.
