To my knowlege Dorai mama does not have arthritis; I just spoke to him yesterday. Nor is his arm like this because of an accident, if you view earlier videos he still keeps his right arm a little more stiff. This is simply a style in which he plays, to my knowledge in order to get better control of his softer strokes rather banging the drum.

Guruvayoor Dorai had an accident which forces him to play with a stiff hand.He had fell on his shoulder after slipping on the rug.
